In the dorm rooms of IIT-B, all the way back in 2023, there was an idea. To bring together a group of remarkable people, see if they could become something more. See if they could work together when needed, to solve a problem that happened to be right in front of us all, but managed to go unnoticed at the same time. Today, we present the outcome of nearly 2 years of developing, building, and iterating over that very idea, as we introduce ourselves to the tech world online. We are Rhygen - a startup that operates in the deep-tech space. Started by 3 grads from IIT-B, we are now a team of 12 incredible people, building a company that aims to optimize how energy is transmitted and converted. We develop systems that minimize losses at every single stage, making sure that not a single bit of usable energy gets wasted, and driving up overall system efficiency. Our first step toward this goal was to look at where energy is being bled right in front of us, every single day - Commercial Vehicles. The first prototype that we have worked upon is a series hybrid powertrain for light commercial vehicles, which we successfully integrated into a Tata Ace. In population-dense areas like cities, vehicles have frequent start-stop operation, with repeated braking and acceleration leading to an extremely inefficient engine operation over the complete drive cycle. By introducing a hybrid configuration, we have essentially built a layer of intelligence into the system. Our stack allows the machine to "think" before it acts - intelligently switching the power source from the primary unit to the battery at points of inefficient operation. Through this adaptive control, we managed to almost double the system efficiency of our prototype from 13-15% to 27-30%, essentially doubling the mileage for equivalent conditions. The natural question is: why a hybrid instead of going fully electric? Because in commercial applications, weight and uptime are everything. Pure EVs force you to carry massive, heavy battery packs that create a severe payload penalty - sacrificing actual cargo capacity just to move the battery itself. Pair that with hours of charging downtime that operators simply cannot afford. Our series hybrid architecture uses a significantly smaller battery buffer. We capture the immediate, high torque and efficiency of an electric drive, eliminate grid dependency entirely, and preserve as much payload capacity as possible. The best part? The technology that we are developing is not constrained to simply automobiles. It can fit into any and every use-case where a power system sits at the heart of an operation. Think Diesel Gen-sets, Ships, Defence tech, or range-extended drones - in fact, we have already started working on adapting our modular hardware and software stack to optimize these applications. Our ultimate vision is to become the global standard for intelligent power, maximizing efficiency wherever energy is transmitted or converted. We believe that energy optimization is the most critical lever for a sustainable future, driven by a simple philosophy: Energy Saved is Energy Gained. The road ahead won't be measured by announcements or headlines, but by systems that consume less, waste less, and achieve more. There are harder engineering problems to solve, larger systems to rethink, and massive opportunities to make energy work smarter.
