The first large organism on land, Prototaxites, lived 400 million years ago and grew up to 3ft wide and 26 ft tall.
Until this year scientists thought it was was some type of fungus, but a 2026 science paper says it's likely "an entirely extinct eukaryotic lineage"!!

i enjoy rpf. it's fun, it's a classic part of fan culture. i also think its objectively an odd thing to do and i feel uncomfortable with the new attitude that a fandom has no obligation to protect the public figure from it.

In 1879, a British/Scottish medical student named Robert Felkin watched an African healer in Uganda perform a caesarean section.
Clean incision. Banana wine as anaesthetic and antiseptic. Bleeding cauterised with hot iron. Wound closed with iron pins and herbal root paste.
Mother recovered fully. Baby survived.
Felkin noted in his journal that the technique was SO REFINED, it was clearly standard practice, performed routinely long before any European arrived.
At that same moment, hospitals in London and Edinburgh were still debating whether caesarean sections could ever be justified on a living woman.
European surgeons were operating in street clothes, rarely washing their hands, and losing most patients to post-operative infection.
The Africans had already solved anaesthesia, anti sepsis, haemostasis, and wound care.
Felkin went home and presented his findings to the Edinburgh Obstetrical Society in 1884.
The knife used in that surgery still exists.
It is now housed in the Science Museum in London.
A silent artifact of a surgical tradition they called primitive.
They didn't discover our medicine.
They witnessed it, wrote it down and forgot to mention where it came from.

I suggested Metaverse was a money laundering/tax evasion scheme and people insisted it was just bad game dev.
It was both. It could have been 100x "better" and amazing and STILL be money laundering.

The scandal over this photo perfectly reflects so many accusations of antisemitism.
In this case, a photo captures exactly how a settler looks, and the magazine is condemned as antisemitic because his appearance supposedly is identical to “caricatures.”
Meanwhile, when criticizing Israel, you can accurately describe exactly what it does with extensive sources and proof, and they call you hateful because the actions may align with antisemitic “tropes.”
Instead of condemning Israel for manifesting the worst antisemitic stereotypes, they say doing so is hateful.
Reality is antisemitic to them because it does not align with the Jewish supremacist worldview they have been propagating their whole lives.
