Finally a moment to relax! #2020 Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! Having a family and being a physician (and married to one) during these times have been trying to say the least. We are thankful for being able to to simply wine down and have a toast to life!

@WCInvestor If you have a 0% interest for x years. I don't see any fault in having a car payment. You can use the cash you would have paid for a car and invest it.

Most physicians make $15,000-$60,000 a month. How long does it really take to save up for a car, even a brand-new one? Doctors, you don't need to finance your cars.

Rest in Peace, Claudette Colvin (1939 - 2026). In 1955, Claudette Colvin,15, was arrested for refusing to give her seat to a white woman on a public bus in Montgomery, Alabama. She was arrested 9months before Rosa Parks, but NAACP didn't want her to represent their organization because she was 15 and pregnant.

#OnThisDay in 1961, Ernie Davis became the first Black player to win the collegiate Heisman Trophy while a running back at Syracuse University. His life story was portrayed in the 2008 movie, “The Express.” By age 12, he excelled in sports, leading his high school basketball team in Elmira, New York, to a 52-game winning streak. He became a talented football player and was recruited to Syracuse University by alumnus Jim Brown, the legendary running back for the Cleveland Browns. Davis helped Syracuse win its only national title, defeating the University of Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Although he was named the game’s MVP, he wasn’t allowed to attend the awards banquet because of his color. When he won the Heisman Trophy, President John K. Kennedy congratulated him. “Imagine,” Davis said, “a president wanting to shake hands with me.” He was the first overall pick in the NFL draft, and the Cleveland Browns signed him to a record rookie contract to play in the same backfield with Brown, his childhood hero. But before he could compete on the field, doctors discovered he had leukemia. After his cancer went into remission, he practiced again with the Browns, but he was forced to reenter the hospital the following spring. On May 18, 1963, he died in his sleep at the age of 23. Thousands attended the funeral in Elmira, including members of the Browns team that he never played for. “Ernie Davis transcended racism. That was his essence. That was his greatness,” Jim Brown told Sports Illustrated. “Some people say I am unlucky. I don’t believe it,” Davis wrote in The Saturday Evening Post. “When I look back, I can’t call myself unlucky. … In these years I have had more than most people get in a lifetime.” mississippitoday.org/2024/11/28/196…

Trump’s pick for Surgeon General has a medical degree from the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. No, seriously. I’m not making this up. (The current Surgeon General has a BA from Harvard and an MD from Yale).

No I am saying the Ivy leagueers are brighter and will easily meet the minimal standard. Now some of those Ivy Leaguers might be lazy and practice medicine poorly. Whereas the less bright students work harder and can outperform the brighter students. But in general the brighter you are the better your diagnostic skills are.

Board certification is the miminal standard. The brightest physicians don't go to the Caribbean. They go to mainland schools. And that is precisely why the new surgeon general nominee misleads the public on her LinkedIn and personal web pages by only mentioning the University of Arkansas. She doesn't want anyone knowing she went to the Caribbean for medical school. She knows the reputation. And anyone in the medical world knows that. So all you Trumpers go ahead and make all the excuses in the world for the inferior candidate. But it does not change the facts. She had to tell the truth to the state of New York.

@MDJD2 @Needsmustave @MeachamDr @quadcarl Congratulation on your 31 years of being in medicine. I guarantee I know a lot more about Caribbean schools than you do based on the information you are providing. Agreed Caribbean schools may have lower MCAT scores. There are outliers in everything...

I have been around medicine since 1993. I know about Caribbean schools. I know what it takes to get into medical school. Caribbean school graduates on the whole have lower MCAT scores, that is their general aptitude is lower than mainland students. They still can excel because practicing medicine is not just about brainpower.

@MDJD2 @Needsmustave @MeachamDr @quadcarl So now you are moving the goalposts...from getting accepted into a US medical school to she's not a top physician. Have you observed her in practice? How do you know she's not a top physician?

The surgeon general should be one of the top physicians in the country. Janette Nesheiwat is not one of top physicians. There are many more qualified candidates that Trump could have chosen. He chose her because she has been on Fox News. And honestly she is not that impressive on that network. Dr. Marc Siegel also appears on Fox News and is far more qualified that the Caribbean Queen. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marc_Sieg…

Caribbean medical schools often admit students with lower MCAT scores compared to U.S. medical schools. For instance, many Caribbean programs have median MCAT scores ranging from 490 to 500, whereas U.S. medical schools typically expect scores above 510 for competitive applicants. Some Caribbean schools even forgo requiring the MCAT entirely or only consider high scores to compensate for other weaknesses in an application. This flexibility makes them an attractive option for students who may not meet the stricter academic benchmarks of U.S. institutions.

@Needsmustave @MDJD2 @MeachamDr @quadcarl Correct. There are people who go to the Caribbean after high school and don't even complete 4 years of college (as it is not necessary to obtain your MD). They do 2 years of college then go to medial school. That is actually the more 'intelligent' thing to do!

@MDJD2 @Needsmustave @MeachamDr @quadcarl Trumper? Because you're asked a question you resort to assuming a political stance for me? Do you know how she did in residency or post residency? Do you know how she did on her board exams? You're going off of her acceptance into medical school. Very narrow minded.

@MDJD2 @MeachamDr @quadcarl Board passage means exactly what it is...becoming board certified which levels the playing field for physicians in that speciality.

@MeachamDr @quadcarl Let's be straight up. When you go to the Caribbean it means you could not get into a mainland school. Your scores were lower. And yes everybody passes the same boards. But Board passage only means minimal competence. The least brightest of physicians go to the Caribbean schools.
