After a week of using Deepstash, Which advertises itself as an intelligent replacement social media, I have made an assessment: It is a great concept, but it relies too heavily on “trendy” authors and books, and leaves out the gems. I postulate that the service could be made better by incorporating additional learning tools, such as quizzes and puzzles. Its concept and goal is huge and must be supported as doom scrolling has taken over. Deepstash is a great tool that will hopefully help people break from doomscrolling, I just feel that it lacks some features and doesn’t have much “unique” content.

These days there’s a growing temptation to skip the learning part. After all, if Google or AI can retrieve, summarize, and even explain anything on demand, why bother? Research says otherwise. A 2019 study in the Journal of Educational Psychology found that students with stronger factual recall (meaning the ones who know stuff) consistently outperformed their peers in critical thinking. So? It means reasoning doesn’t float in a vacuum. It stands on a foundation of prior knowledge. If we don’t know what we don’t know, we become easy targets for plausible-sounding nonsense. AI can only reason with the inputs it’s given. And if those inputs come from shallow exposure or biased data, it will reflect that back—with confidence. Critical thinking still starts with knowing. Why we do what we do!

This is an acknowledgment of how the thought leaders of Bitcoin absolutely neutered the project. The entire point of Bitcoin is that you don’t need a corporation to facilitate the payment. It’s fucking Bitcoin, just send it! But somehow we’re 15 years in and one of the biggest voices in the space acts like users want to use it, but they just can’t.

i feel like we need a new format for "books" that are written for how we read online and clip out quotes to tweet. i feel like it's gonna be a stylistic departure from the format of "chapters" and will more resemble something akin to "tidbits" or "mementos" that we can collect. just as the novel was invented during a point in time when reading was the major form of entertainment, i feel like there is a new form of "book" to be invented that caters to how we read (interspersed with other forms of stimuli). it will be more akin to a "deck of cards" than a "book" in the classical sense.
