If Shanks was truly stronger than Mihawk, then explain this; Why would a swordsman wait for someone stronger than his old rival if that rival was already stronger than him? If Mihawk were weaker than Shanks, then logically he wouldn’t be waiting for someone who surpasses Shanks — he’d first need someone on Shanks’ level. That’s why this argument never made sense to me. And honestly, based on this argument, Mihawk being stronger than Shanks makes more sense. Because logically, you only wait for a swordsman stronger than your old rival once you’ve already surpassed that rival yourself… or try to raise one with your own hands.
