you know what really frustrates me here is that i (not exactly a "marxist" english professor but definitely anarcho-socialist or the like) teach antigone every year and one of my fave activities is to have students compare creon/antigone to some 1A religious liberty cases ...
Alina Stefanescu@aliner

Antigone is about politics— and about the politics of burial, ancestors, and state-administrated afterlives. Antigone is also about war crimes and the denial of eternity to certain bodies. Ideological freakiness is inherent to Antigone. Don’t fall for the hysteria she’s pimping.

You knew there was no hope for the future of edgy and pugnacious leftbro-ism when they all opposed the “Harper’s Letter”. There are a lot of subsequent examples, but that one was the first I can remember being like “OK these guys are useless”

Marxist English professors at Columbia gave me a passing grade on a paper where they basically FORCED ME to say that Antigone is about ~politics~. What a bunch of ideological freaks! Subscribe to my Substack to learn why it’s really about Western objective morality. 💁🏻‍♀️

Alina, you're troubled because I have given living proof of what it is to be a Great Man. Tell me my books aren't Great. Tell me. Oh? I thought so. And women can produce such work, no less than men. You know this too. So spare me your heresies. Just respect me as I respect you.

This feels like one of those more recherché Kids in the Hall sketches that was somehow both of its time and also, apparently, timeless
