In any other time or presidency, this story. reported by @WSJ, would be an earthquake of a scandal. The size, scope and implications of it are unprecedented and mind-boggling. But will this Congress, which brayed endlessly about the "Biden crime family," probe it? Not a chance.

I find this a very weak argument for an invasion this year. The PLA leadership is in disarray and Xi Jinping getting what he wants from Trump on so many fronts. At the same time, INDOPAC is building very new capabilities with Japan/Philippines/Australia etc. The new KMT leadership is very friendly. Why upset a very positive geopolitical position by destroying Taiwan?

Having lived through a similar, nationwide version of this in Trump's model, Putin's Russia, it’s not easy to fight against. And Trump and many of his gang have passed the point at which they feel they can afford to lose power, even in Congress. It’s a perilous moment.
