A brilliant interview about city priorities and the governance challenges. Candid about the problems. Honest with the analysis. Clear on the way forward. 👏 @DavidColtart x.com/citezw/status/…

Bulawayo Mayor @DavidColtart says poor policing of the Nyamandlovu Aquifer, managed by ZINWA, has led to widespread vandalism of boreholes, reducing water delivery to the city to just 9 megalitres a day. Watch the full interview: youtu.be/o3t7VA8bXoo?si…

“THE PATRILINEAL TRAP” - Jobs pay too little to compensate for loss of honour - Women rarely leave the village - Everyone anticipates condemnation - Women remain secluded & dependent on patriarchs - Loving mothers care for their sons, who seek housewives

Very powerful New Year’s Address by President Zelenskyy. Instead of picking one line, I want to wholeheartedly recommend you to watch the complete speech. I promise, it is worth every minute. Video via @walter_report

Twitterverse: I need to stop reading books for work at bedtime and need a novel rec. It cannot be violent or have any scenes where kids are harmed. It must be well written. Some of my favorite fiction: Gilead, My Antonia, Angle of Repose, and Better than War. Suggestions?

Being reminded of that local heatwave in 1976. It’s gone global in 2022.

Two months ago I said that the fight for the Donbas would have little bearing on the outcome of the war Now as that fight moves into its attritional phase, Putin's evolving strategy is becoming quite clear. He believes time is on his side. And he may be right 🧵
Dmitri Alperovitch@DAlperovitch

Somewhat contrarian opinion: the war’s ending is likely already predetermined regardless of the outcome of the upcoming fight for Donbas

@qrsupport. Very disappointed with your customer service. Was told overnight that a 2hr 55 layover has become more than 9 hours. Yet there is a much earlier onward flight. Twice contacted an online agent. Disconnected twice before issue resolved. Not impressed.

Many people are thinking about potential compromises leading to peace in Ukraine. Yet to understand what's at stake for Putin one must keep in mind that this war didn't start in 2022, it started in 2014. For Putin, destroying Ukraine's independence has become an obsession.
