Stop extending uncritical grace to foreign journalists operating in this country on the basis of some vague metaphysical conviction that their intentions are inherently benevolent. This reflexive trust creates openings for the infiltration of communities that have already been subjected to relentless targeting and surveillance by the US and Israel. This behaviour is actively exposing vulnerable populations to tangible and irreversible harm. What is often framed as goodwill or solidarity is, in reality, rooted in a persistent insecurity; it is rooted in a belief that native voices lack legitimacy unless validated by external intermediaries who possess far less familiarity with this land and its people. The consequences of these attitudes are material and borne by communities that have already paid an unbearable price. Lives have been lost, and networks of trust have been repeatedly compromised, resulting in death. Material consequences must take precedence over speculative feelings about intent or so-called goodwill. Good intentions do not mitigate risk and they cannot absolve the structural harm that can arise from careless access to our communities and uncritical exposure that can put them in the line of direct fire. Enough has already been lost.
