Let me recommend Queen Mantis real quick because this one? Complicated in the best and worst ways. Queen Mantis is one of those dramas where the performances completely outshine the writing. Ko Hyun-jung didn’t just play Jung Ishin, she embodied her. A killer, a mother, and somehow still a victim… it’s unsettling how the show makes you understand her. “It’s an advantage that society doesn’t see women as threats.” That line alone carries the entire theme and proves why female serial killers make such compelling stories. The premise? A son who hates his serial killer mother is forced to work with her to catch a copycat, because she’ll only help if he’s the detective. Add in 23 years of secrecy, a hidden identity, and unresolved resentment… the tension was right there. But while the story started strong, it didn’t fully explore its own ideas. The police incompetence became frustrating, and the villain deserved better handling. Still, the acting? Absolutely undeniable. I rate it a solid 7.5/10.
