An investigation is underway after two men reported to be armed entered a mosque in Manchester. The two males were spotted 'acting suspiciously' by volunteers at the Manchester Central Mosque A spokesperson for the mosque said they were carrying bags, with one believed to be containing an axe and the other a hammer and a knife. Police were called to the scene. One arrest was made while a search is now underway for the other suspect, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said. At around 8.40pm last night (Tuesday 25 February 2026) we were called to reports that two men had entered Manchester Central Mosque, on Upper Park Road, and were acting suspiciously. "Officers swiftly attended the scene and arrested a man in his 40s on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon and possession of class B. "He remains in custody for questioning."
