@sureBigbro Your political analysis is not only misleading and inaccurate but it’s utterly wrong and a joke. senator Natasha won her senatorial district when Yahaya hello was still a governor, so what validations are you now giving to widely skewed assertion ?

Breaking: Former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, has declared interest in contesting the Kogi Central Senatorial seat in 2027. This marks the road back home for Senator Natasha. Alhaji Yahaya Bello is a highly popular political figure in his senatorial district, and no one can stop him. His strong grassroots support and the love the people have for him will speak clearly in his favor. With this development, the political career of Senator Natasha in Kogi State has effectively come to an end.

Northern Governors, Traditional Rulers meeting: Demand 6-Month Mining Suspension, ₦1bn Monthly Security Fund to Fight Insecurity The 19 Northern Governors and the region’s Traditional Rulers’ Council have issued a strong communiqué after an emergency joint meeting held today at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, declaring that only collective action and decisive measures can end the escalating insecurity ravaging Northern Nigeria. The meeting, described as “pivotal,” produced far-reaching resolutions aimed at tackling banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and the growing menace of illegal mining. Key Resolutions from the Communiqué: - Immediate suspension of all mining activities for six months**: The Forum accused illegal mining of being a major driver of the security crisis in the North and demanded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu direct the Minister of Solid Minerals to halt all mining exploration and subject every mining licence to revalidation in active consultation with state governors. The leaders warned that artisanal and illegal mining must be brought under control to starve criminals of funding and logistics. - Establishment of a Northern Regional Security Trust Fund: Each of the 19 northern states and their local governments will contribute ₦1 billion monthly, to be deducted at source, into a dedicated security fund. The framework for the fund will be finalised soon. - Full backing for State Police: The governors and traditional rulers reiterated their “wholehearted support” for the creation of state police and urged northern federal and state lawmakers to fast-track the necessary constitutional amendments. - Renewed support for President Tinubu’s anti-terrorism efforts: The Forum commended the President for securing the release of some recently abducted school children and praised the sacrifices of the armed forces. They pledged “renewed and total support” for any military action required to take the fight to insurgent enclaves in order to end terrorism and banditry once and for all. - Condolences to affected states: The leaders extended heartfelt sympathies to the governments and people of Kebbi, Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Sokoto, Jigawa, Kano, Borno, and Yobe states over recent killings, abductions of school children, and Boko Haram attacks. The communiqué emphasised that “only through unity, peer review, and cooperation” can the North overcome its challenges, with the leaders reaffirming their determination to discharge their constitutional responsibilities with “firmness and clarity.” Another joint meeting will be convened soon to review progress on these resolutions.

@SegunShowunmi The role of journalism is also to question power, sometimes firmly. The danger is that what you call “provocation” may simply be accountability in action. Regulation is necessary, but when it leans toward censorship, it undermines democracy.

Factually Addressing Mr. Peter Obi's Criticism of Nigeria at Johns Hopkins University On Thursday, April 24, 2025, former Governor Peter Obi, the Labour Party presidential candidate for the 2023 election, was at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he made several disparaging comments about Nigeria. He made the unflattering remarks not just about the incumbent Nigerian government, but also about Nigeria. I also find Mr. Obi's pattern of behaviour disturbing. When prominent Nigerians go overseas, they ought to project Nigeria positively. They do not have to do that for the government. But we all owe a duty to market Nigeria on the global stage rather than de-market her. That is what true patriotism is about. Because Mr. Obi focused on poverty and said that the current administration's policies are making Nigerians poorer, I will concentrate on that. Any leader can fight poverty generationally by promoting education, improving healthcare, providing credit, and granting access to land. Now, I find it somewhat ironic that a man like Mr. Obi, who did not build a single school or a stand alone hospital throughout his eight-year tenure as Governor of Anambra or sustainably provide credit facilities, would criticise the Government of Nigeria, which is actively doing that. I say this because the President of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is my predecessor, and as Governor of Lagos and now President of Nigeria, has built over 200 schools and provided student loans to more than 200,000 undergraduates of Nigerian tertiary institutions. In less than two years, he has provided over half a billion dollars in credit facilities to small and medium-scale enterprises. While he was Governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2007, the President reduced poverty by more than 46%. There is every reason to believe that, based on what he did as Governor of Lagos, he will repeat the same feat at the federal level. After all, the best predictor of the future is the past. But let us examine the messenger, not just the message, and look at the issuer as well as the issues. Mr. Obi talks a good game. But was he able to reduce poverty while he governed Anambra? Perhaps we can let the facts speak for themselves. Under Peter Obi as a two term Anambra Governor, poverty in Anambra increased. It did not reduce. Before Peter Obi became Anambra Governor on Thursday, June 14, 2007, the poverty rate in Anambra was 41.4%. But after only two years in office, the poverty rate in Anambra jumped to 53.7%. But the interesting thing is that five years after Peter Obi left office, his successor, Willie Obiano, reduced the poverty rate in Anambra from almost 60% to 14.8%. As such, I am not sure that Mr. Obi is morally well placed to make the alarming claims he made about Nigeria at Johns Hopkins. Mr. Obi contributed to the increase in poverty in Nigeria. Governor Tinubu, as he then was, was responsible for lifting millions out of poverty. Being that that is the case, who should criticise who?
