I keep running into showstopper bugs in Microsoft Office while I'm writing books and making slides. Simple stuff just doesn't work properly at all. It's like it was never tested. And closing and opening files often causes things to change in ways that require manual fix-ups, making it impossible to have stable documents. This is just ridiculous coming from one of the most valuable software companies on the planet with massive engineering resources at its disposal. It wastes a huge amount of my time. I think I need to commit to building my own replacements for Word and PowerPoint with a focus on technical writing. The equation support is already done, and it's fantastic! Given what I already have, I'm betting that a minimum viable product for a word processor would actually require less effort from this point than what originally went into Radical Pie.

Did you know auto-save in Blender only saves in Object Mode? Retopoflow 4 now has its own auto-save that keeps you safe in Edit Mode too.

@lisyarus normals/directions have non-unit length or not taking lengths into account when computing reflection direction? (ex: ray's direction is not unit, so it "sees" 2nd hit as really far away)

Ohhh that's interesting. I've made a render which, instead of color, shows the distance to the next hit surface (except for the lamp). It's pretty uniform on the walls, but almost black (yet not completely black!) on the box 🤔

@lisyarus my go-to for learning a new language: write a raytracer / path tracer! flipped normals? you have indirect on the ceiling, so it's not 2nd bounce issue.

Current state: writing a Monte-Carlo raytracer in my toy programming language. Fixed ~15 compiler bugs, introduced a few new features, faced function stack size limit (4Kb, larger needs special care due to arm64 weirdness), but still can't figure out why this box is black 😭
