Just remembered a time I visited Nigeria: I was on my way to make a final visit to a family member before leaving 9ja the next day. I sat in a bus at a motor park while the driver waited for more passengers A man approached me and started their usual “throw everything and see which one sticks” routine. Then came the funny part: The man was there saying everything under the sun, and I was there completely unbothered. Then he went, “My brother, the Lord told me you are supposed to be living abroad by now, but there is someone in your family making sure that will not happen. But I’m sure that with prayers and fasting, God will turn things around.” My wife, sitting right next to me, pinched me. I turned, only to see her with that “I’m about to burst into laughter” face. I gave her the “don’t even try it” look, and she quickly turned away, probably laughing her behind off. I asked the man what would happen if I couldn’t fast, and he told me he could arrange some people to fast on my behalf—but I would have to compensate them. I told him to give me his number and that I would be calling him soon because I just can’t wait to travel abroad. Are people that gullible to be swayed with the promise of going abroad?
