Pope Francis, speaking to leaders of the Roman Curia, warns them against “fear, rigidity, monotony”, falling into ideological positions & repeating what has always been done. He says those who work in the church’s central administration may need to “rekindle the embers under the ashes of the church”.

If a priest is cruel, rude, or verbally abusive in confession, you can walk away. You don’t need to explain yourself, tell him what you’re doing or any such thing. A person who comes to a priest in the sacrament of reconciliation is in a very vulnerable position and it is imperative that a priest respect that.

More tosh. The pope has every canonical right to remove a bishop for administrative reasons, and usually does not make public those reasons in order not to humiliate him. Benedict XVI and John Paul II did exactly the same.
Michael Haynes 🇻🇦@MLJHaynes

STRICKLAND: “This is not a canonically proper procedure,” said Fr @GeraldMurray8 on @WorldOverLive re Bishop Strickland's removal. “This is not how you should treat a successor of the Apostles...The Apostles were given office by Christ Himself, so were their successors–that's not being respected here.”

Sacked @BishStrickland says 2 years ago nuncio to US asked him not to keep claiming to defend the deposit of the faith from the Pope. A week ago, nuncio read him “several pages of concerns” about his running of the diocese of Tyler, including refusal to implement papal decrees.

All the public docs of the October assembly of #synod2023 are very helpfully collected here: synod.va/en/highlights/… @Synod_va i.e. Fr Radcliffe talks, pope homilies & addresses, speeches by general relator, testimonials, theological inputs, homilies at Mas opening each module.

Sexual abuse of children is Catholic church's existential threat. Big Rome powwow is for naught without massive strategy to locate, arrest and dismiss every predator. They are violating children right now. cathnews.com/2023/10/12/syn…

The month of October is also the month of the Rosary. I encourage you to set aside 30 minutes each day to pray the rosary. May the Virgin Mary intercede for the needs of the Church and for our vulnerable brothers and sisters.

Instead of justice they receive sophisticated responses that obfuscate the fact that a man has committed a heinous crime, and instead appeal to the idea that the criminal is inherently superior to others and needs special care just because he is a priest.

Part of the problem seems to be, that people whom one would expect not to do so because they should know better, take matters into their own hands disregarding both norms and law.

Victims are silenced... why? One of my guesses is because they call attention to the fact that a crime with dire consequences was committed and rightly demand justice.

And then the heinous crime of sexual abuse is reframed and explained away and an exclusively an "illness" and sin, drawing attention away from the crime against human dignity and humanity and refocusing sympathy on the brokenness of the offender.

@cwwhiteNCR Seems like this is what's done by people who think they can make up their own rules and these are more important than any other set of rules.
