@system_monarch This is a classic hot shard + cache stampede + retry storm. I won’t rebalance—I’ll contain load on that shard, reduce invalidations, and stop retries from amplifying traffic. I’d stabilize the shard by stopping retry amplification, reducing cache invalidations.

Interviewer for a staff backend role: You have 128 shards handling 2 million requests per second. 3 keys are receiving 40% of all traffic and they all landed on the same shard.
