Most of my tweets get somewhere between 0-7 likes, and the only reason I can think of that this one got so much engagement is that the title of Bolano book excited the algorithm.

@bobblack1 @GalleonBooks @jerrodedson Oh, nice to hear, Bob - it's almost a 'lost' book for me and I think it makes some readers uncomfortable. Or me now. Something like that. Publisher passed away about 5 years ago, much too young, and with him so down went the press.

People just keep releasing novels with the title The + [weird, non-idiomatic gerund] -- each one a little weirder and less idiomatic than the last.

@VinceCzyz Maybe that's why I can't remember a single Goyen plot...

@lee_thomp Goyen rights beautifully and I enjoy his work a great deal, but the stories are fairly plotless. I'm looking for those writers who do both; Denis Johnson is another good example.

Prose stylists who also write good short stories--stories with discernible plots? Jayne Anne Phillips (Black Tickets) comes to mind. Who else?
