Nu är det den danska professorn i global hälsa, Christine Stabell Benn, som smädas. Journalisten försöker få det till att professorn forskar i en kolonial anda och utnyttjat fattiga barn i Afrika. Det är ett fullständigt absurt påstående för alla som är bekanta med Stabell Benns helt banbrytande forskning. Stabell Benn har tillsammans med forskarkollegan Peter Aaby gjort vaccinforskning på barn i Guinea-Bissau. De har använt det allra mest tillförlitliga utfallsmåttet, det vill säga resultatet för total dödlighet och skadlighet. Ofta används istället utfallet för målet med en behandling, till exempel vid vaccinering att minska allvarligt insjuknande i en specifik infektionssjukdom eller hur mycket titthålskirurgi av en infekterad blindtarm förkortar konvalescensen efter operationen. Men låt oss säga att titthålskirurgi medför kortare konvalescens än vid öppen kirurgi av en infekterad blindtarm, men att fler av patienterna vars blindtarm togs bort via titthålskirurgi dog, då är naturligtvis inte titthålskirurgi av blindtarm en lämplig metod. Stabell Benns och Aabys forskning har visat att levande försvagade vaccin minskar både mortalitet och morbiditet, medan avdödade vaccin har motsatt verkan. SvD:s artikel vill påskina att de två forskarnas nya studie med hepatit B-vaccin är djupt oetisk. Det är självklart inte fallet, och artikelförfattaren borde istället problematisera varför forskarna fått forskningsstöd för denna studie från CDC i USA och varför det djupt komprometterade WHO, som inte har en läkare som ordförande och som har allt färre läkare och medicinska forskare i ledningsgruppen, gör en annan bedömning.
