A registry would not solve every problem. It would not prevent someone from lying. It would not stop donations taking place outside clinics, whether through artificial insemination or intercourse. It would not stop people from traveling outside the country to bypass Canadian law.

Canada does not have a national registry for sperm and egg donors (although Quebec has had its own since June). That means donor-conceived people's ability to access information about their donor depends on private arrangements, luck and a lot of trust.
