Are the Jets drafting for long-term success or short-term job security?
If they truly believe David Bailey is the better long-term player than Arvell Reese, then the pick is justified.
But if they’re taking Bailey just to help Aaron Glenn keep his job, that’s a massive red flag. That’s not a vision… that’s a flawed process.

The Jets will have a suped-up edge rush with David Bailey and Will McDonald IV. They can burn the edges. But neither player is stout vs the run, which could leave them vulnerable. #Jets

I want my edge to be able to stop the run but my main objective is to hit the QB a lot. If he can do that he can learn to set the edge in time.

David Bailey was a productive pass rusher at Texas Tech. But you wonder if he and Will McDonald IV can hold up against the run. One of the knocks on Bailey was his play as a run defender.

Arvell Reese has a higher ceiling — but the Jets priortized adding a player in David Bailey who has the ability to get 10 sacks the minute he puts on a Jets uniform.
Needs to improve against the run — and will be interested to see how the Jets use their edge rushers since Will McDonald has a similar concern. Jets also signed Joe Ossai and Kingsley Enagbare at edge this offseason.

Official: Jets pick David Bailey at No. 2, so all the noise it turns out was accurate. It was an interesting process — still don’t really understand the canceled visit — but ultimately they landed on a quality pass rusher who will make an impact right away.

@JCaporoso Joe, seriously if the story goes that everyone would move to 3 to take Reese once the #Jets pass, why wouldn't the #Jets just take the same comp - move down to 8 or 9 and take Downs/Bain/Tate?

@snyjets Which is fine if you pick him and he hits, but he’d better hit because otherwise every one will reference cancelling the meeting and say there was a lack of due diligence. For the #2 pick and the contract that goes with it, cancelling a visit should be a big deal.

Last week you were ‘hearing’ Bailey? From who exactly if the Jets aren’t talking? Just imagine the flack the Jets would get if they picked Bailey and he was a bust. Every mannand his dog would point to cancelling the top 30 visit.
