If we cannot finish the job against the Islamic Republic, a third-rate aspirant power lacking a credible navy, air force, or integrated air defense, because we are unwilling to tolerate marginal and temporary increases in gas prices, then there is little reason to believe we could mount a sustained defense of Taiwan. If this trajectory persists, Taiwan is effectively lost already.

The Strait of Hormuz is an international strait. Under UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (which Iran has not ratified) all ships & aircraft enjoy freedom of navigation & overflight. No state can suspend this right. Rights are not subject to negotiation & renegotiation.
i just want to clarify something and then i will move on from this for a while lol. i think some people are construing this tweet to mean that i am judging this lady for using the tech she’s criticizing (“you critique society and yet participate in it 🤔” lol.) that’s not what i’m getting at. i was making an observation about the way these fights are sometimes framed by people who really don’t like ai and discourage people from using it — data center opposition doesn’t neatly track with opposition to ai usage. most americans have misgivings about ai, but increasingly, americans are also using it. i think it’ll be similar to social media, which has high rates of adoption and distrust, and i think it’s critical to understand both realities.
My pet theory is that Dem voters are going to square the anti-semitism vs anti-current-Israeli-leadership circle by electing a Jewish guy who is vocally critical of Israel and Bibi. I’ll get tons of pushback on this right now. But let’s check in a year from now.
