This video is how I plant my 250 grm onions in some narrow raised beds that were made by linkabord. The quality of the product was so good its lasted me around 20 years. The compost I use is Humax multi purpose original

Gathered some tomatoes and beet this morning. Beet is quite large but it will be juicy in the centre as the variety is Pablo, a show winning cultivar with great internal colouring. Toms were sown 1/3 but planted late so still have more left in the cold greenhouse lovely jubbly!!

They're the best variety I've grown Medwyn. They had a bit of thrips earlier in the season but it somehow cleared up and honestly I haven't sprayed them with anything. I've still got a few growing and they're as clean as a whistle.

The leeks at the RHS late Autumn show surprised me as it was the variety LLanberis bred by David Metcalfe some years ago now. This won the Best dish in Show. The remarkable thing was the condition of the foliage, very clean and free from all pest and diseases

Probably the best fruit exhibitor in the country bar none is Adrian Baggaley and once again had a field day with his fruit. Here’s an interesting chat with him.

The veggies were good as well at the RHS late Autumn show. The leek class was won by a variety that was bred by David Metcalfe a few years and named ‘Llanberis’ after the venue of my Masterclass weekend at the village

My last judging event of 2025. Having judged seven shows all over the country and abroad, I deserve a rest!the RHS late fruit and veg show at Harlow Carr is excellent with this season producing some of the best top fruit for many years.

Who else but Sherie Plumb could win all the potato classes. The master will be giving a talk at the NVS Masterclass Weekend at Llanberis on the first weekend in November

A great set of exhibition onions from Darren Pritchett with Carmen cucumber being First and Second for Sherie Plumb and her daughter Emily. The judges had a hard time sorting out the chilies, all colours, size and shape.

The Best dish in Show was a set of Sweet Candle stump carrots, this was the unanimous decision of the six judges. They weren’t perfect but nothing ever is. I have a saying in my seed catalogue‘I strive for perfection but settle for excellence’ They were very good.

The collection of ten kinds of vegetables was won by the Bucks district association of the NVS and grown by four members of the DA plus John Branham who selected the veg. The large exhibition onions were easy winners and in the run for Best in Show.

Fantastic two bunches of Muscat of Alexandria exhibited by Chatsworth House Trust. The Brussel Sprouts were fantastic and a new variety for me, very uniform in shape and size

Judging has just started at the RHS Autumn Show Hyde Hall gardens. The best display of fruit I have seen in many years. Considering the hot dry summer, the vegetables are excellent as well. The judges have their work cut out!!

@cm_bagot When harvesting, keep a short stem. We then wash and place them on the floor of the tunnel or glasshouse until the stem is dry and the skin is hard to touch. They will then be placed in a dark, cool, dry frost free shed on a shelf. Keep the fruit apart. It has lasted till March.

Geoff Nash had an amazing show at Malvern winning seven first after only being growing vegetables for exhibition since 2018. The collection of four kinds of vegetables really stood out as a Red Card. Well done Geoff.
