@TrumpsHurricane Thank you for this post! Trump has been losing popularity slowly and now quickly, but it has taken hard work by MAGA to undermine his presidency. You are doing service to our country by helping the GOP drop in the polls with unconvincing rhetoric.

Freddy's Bar in Brooklyn, down the memory hole

An article in BK MAG, owned by arena operator Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, can't tell readers that the bar was ejected to build the Barclays Center.
Much more to remember.

@FBIDirectorKash Thank you Director Patel for standing up for the constitution... of North Korea. I hope you have a chance to take a look at the US Constitution, which includes protections for free speech. Good luck!!

see you and your entire entourage of false reporting in court... But do keep at it with the fake news, actual malice standard is now what some would call a legal lay up.

Psaki: Patel's advisor said a lawsuit is being filed. Fitzpatrick: I stand by every word of this reporting. We have excellent attorneys.

This morning, Governor Kathy Hochul announced efforts to secure passage in the state budget for 25-foot protest buffer zones outside houses of worship to ensure the safety of congregants. Governor Kathy Hochul also announced $70 million for the Securing Communities Against Hate Crimes grant to protect houses of worship and community-based organizations.
Thank you, Governor, for your extraordinary leadership and commitment to the safety and wellbeing of all New Yorkers, and to Jacob Adler, Eva Wyner, and the entire NYS Executive Chamber team for all you do each and every day for the Jewish community and communities across New York

RT @DanielHegedus82: 🇭🇺🗳️
5:00 pm: 74% turnout—more than 5.5 million Hungarian voters have already cast their ballots in today’s election.…

Look at the map from the 2022 election compared to current #HungarianTurnout. The areas with the strongest Fidesz support have relatively lower turnout today. This is a bad sign for Fidesz and a good size for Magyar.

At 1pm, turnout in Hungarian election has broken all records. VERY bad news for Orban and Putin.

@KurtSchlichter .@KurtSchlichter is right. Hungarians are tired of the Russian/KGB invaders who hate their country.
It's time to stand united for Hungary, Europe and democracy. Today is Orbán's last day. Ruszkik haza!

Counterpoint: People are absolutely morally justified not to want to invite in people from other countries to change their existing country. This is true, even if people at CBS News don’t approve.

Hungary's far-right prime minister has become known for making publicly xenophobic and racist statements, calling refugees "Muslim invaders" and saying Hungarians do not want to become a "mixed race." cbsn.ws/48FHMwN

This is the first time I've reposted Orbán, a KGB apologist. For 16 years I thought I was alone thinking he was a danger to Hungary, Europe and the world. Looking at the comments, I see that I am no longer alone.
A bonus: Orbán's tweet is laughably unconvincing.
Ruszkik haza!

🇭🇺 Today, Hungary votes! We’ve cast our ballots. 🟠 Fidesz is the safe choice.

If you are following the Hungarian election this weekend, here are some notes on how the system is supposed to work.
Hungary’s parliament has 199 seats. Voters cast two ballots. One is for a local candidate in one of 106 constituencies. The candidate with the most votes wins that seat. The second ballot is for a national party list, which fills the remaining 93 seats.
Those 93 seats are not decided by list votes alone. They also include so-called “compensation votes” from the constituency contests, including votes cast for losing candidates and the surplus votes of winning candidates. This mechanism, introduced in 2011, tends to amplify the advantage of the winning side.
Parties must pass a 5% threshold to enter parliament from the list. Seats are distributed proportionally using the D’Hondt formula.
Polls open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. on Sunday. First results from constituencies usually appear in the evening, while the party-list picture becomes clearer later because of the additional calculations. Most results should be known by midnight, but final tallies can take up to a week.
The diaspora vote also plays a role. Ethnic Hungarians living abroad can vote by post, but only for the national party list. There are now almost half a million registered postal voters, many in neighbouring countries such as Romania and Serbia. In past elections, these votes overwhelmingly favoured Fidesz and helped secure extra seats.
Hungarian citizens living abroad who still have a registered address in Hungary can vote at embassies or consulates. These voters participate in both the constituency and national list races, and they tend to lean more towards opposition parties such as the Tisza Party.
So Sunday’s outcome depends on three things: constituency results, the national list, and the ballots arriving from abroad.

@NYCGreenfield I worked for an elected official whose Chief of Staff wrote an awkward Yom Kippur greeting without consulting me, her Jewish staffer. It was infuriating at the time, but luckily Nathalie Kanani wrote a thoughtful apology. I'll cut her some slack since she seems to want to learn.
