Reading Bukharin’s “Imperialism and World Economy” and just got to the section on tariffs and high protectionism and boy is this much worse for all of us than I realized. The world has greatly changed since 1915, but high protectionism is making a comeback.

It is good to reuse containers. If it is a choice. It is a bad thing when it is done because you are unable to manufacture containers. The same way it is good to donate your own money to charity. But it is abhorent to vote for taxpayer subsidies for a charity you want done ... but are too greedy to donate to.

Drove around rural Michigan for the first time in a while and the backlash to data centers is even more widespread than I realized. Some areas almost every house has an anti-data center sign in the yard.

@TheEggpie I would hazard a guess that about 90% of western communists who didn’t have an ideological guide growing up (most of us in 2026) probably flirted with or had an anarchist phase, whether several months or years. Its definitely not a stable bloc.

Marx opposed Bakunin. Lenin opposed the Narodniks. Stalin wrote a whole book on "Anarchism or Socialism?" the anarchists were so detrimental to the Spanish civil war that they inadvertently caused the Francoist rule for decades. no serious communist loves anarchists.

@thereisnobeth You may also want to pick up some books on theory like Von Clausewitz’s on war (Beatrice Heuser and Azar Gat also have good books about VC), BH Liddell Hart and books critiquing him, Barton Whaley, etc.

@madeleinewintr @thereisnobeth I have this book somewhere and was hoping someone would mention it because I could not remember the author or title. Its been a few years. This is a great tome, and it gets down into alot of the details as well. Very good read if you like something more than a primer.

@thereisnobeth thirty years war: europe's tragedy by peter h. wilson is the most through modern single volume history but it is pretty dense if that's not what you're looking for. wedgwood is probably more readable but it's 80 years old and dated.

@Jittery_Jenna @SnowHimbo Tbf, its a long pamphlet from the 1800s. In the modern day, 4 pgs is a long pamphlet, especially where americans are concerned. Not exactly active readers in any case. So essentially, when the revolution comes, we will have to put kindergartens in the gulags for 50 yr olds.

@ThatTFgal84 As much as I disagree with anarchists on alot of things, I respect their contributions, intelligence and understand that their actions are dictated by their humanity. I can say none of those things for the ACP, a bunch of fratboys larping as revolutionaries.
