Chamboi has said "kwaheri" (goodbye in Swahili) to his stable – and moved into a big boy bedroom! Our growing orphaned black rhino - who turned two in September 2026 - reached a milestone recently when he moved into an open-air stockade. The transition was no small undertaking – rhinos are creatures of habit and he would have happily remained in his baby stockade until he was quite literally bursting at the seams. By transferring some of the smells he knows – namely dung! – he settled into his new night-time accommodation seamlessly, spending his days roaming the bush with his Keepers. Moments like this are critical to the process of raising rhinos, where the rearing part is actually far easier than the rewilding phase.
