Your brain can't process a big task like cleaning your room when the thought is just "i need to clean my room" -> looks at it -> stress spike from overwhelm you need to pick one small thing ( if you think too much make it be the first thing you see or think of ) and JUST clean that one part don't tell yourself you're gonna clean your entire room your brain will try to energy conserve and convince you out of it use the stress you feel to make a physical movement in your reality instead of ruminating and move that one object there's a good chance that getting it done will give you the dopamine spike and motivation you need to take the next small step, ( you won't feel like doing it before you do it because of dopamine prediction error where your brain inaccurately calculates the rewards of a task ) which is basically inescapable with technology so people without routine fall into this slump a lot and if you don't feel like taking the next step you still made progress and if you do that everytime eventually it'll be clean stop waiting for permission or for things to feel right and JUST MOVE if your environment isn't clean, you're going to be constantly stressed. You can't just ignore it. it will literally continuously spike your stress throughout the day every time you look around and even if you're just looking at the screen, subconsciously, you know that you're not in a clean environment and your desk is probably dirty it creates a constant bad feeling , you can't really calm down properly if you live with people who are messy, this might not really be something you understand well cause you're used to it but you need to clean your room ! we're not as good at big picture thinking as people make us out to be You need to just take the first step and that leads you to the next step and the next and before you know it you've made more progress in one day of small steps then getting overwhelmed by what could be
