He an oil painter who spent his life painting landscapes that he saw.. My grandmother sent it to me from Europe recently and it’s one of my favorite pieces :) ❤️🙏

The Five Defects of the Vessel 🏺
Exhausted from constantly giving with not even getting back genuine gratitude? Tired and frustrated of being the yang? ☯️
Are you ready to receive? 🌸
You were created to be a vessel and the Holy Spirit is what gives out gifts and blessings, but is your vessel able to contain what the wisdom Spirit pours?
In Tibetan Buddhism, genuine insight develops through 3 Kinds of Wisdom:
1. Wisdom from Hearing/Listening – Absorbing the teachings
2. Wisdom from Reflection/Contemplation – Thinking deeply and making it personal
3. Wisdom from Meditation/Experience – Living it until it transforms you
But none of this works if your mind isn’t ready. The mind is compared to a vessel (or pot) meant to hold the pure “nectar” of wisdom, spiritual gifts, and teachings. If the vessel is defective, even the best teachings cannot benefit.
In Tibetan wisdom, there are five defects a vessel can have that keeps it from being able to receive.
1. Pot Turned Over (Facing the Wrong Direction / Unavailable)
The vessel is upside-down or pointing away from the source. Teachings pour over it but never enter. Your mind is unavailable — distracted, closed off, or facing outward toward worldly concerns, entertainment, or busyness instead of inward toward truth.
Antidote: Be available. Turn your attention inward. Create sacred space and time. Listening truly begins with silence and presence.
2. Pot Which Is Covered (Closed Off / Not Receptive) The vessel has a lid on it — nothing can be poured in, no matter how pure or abundant the flow. You appear to be listening, but your mind is defended, skeptical, or emotionally shut down. Preconceived judgments, defensiveness, or “I’m already good” attitudes block entry.
Antidote: Be open and receptive. Remove the lid of ego-protection. Cultivate humility, curiosity, and a beginner’s mind. True listening requires willingness to be changed.
3. Pot Already Containing Something Poisonous (Contaminated Inside) The vessel holds toxins, dirt, or poison. You can pour the purest water in, but it becomes corrupted. Negative emotions, wrong views, pride, attachment to your own opinions, or selfish motives contaminate the teachings. The gift gets twisted to serve ego instead of liberating the mind.
Antidote: Wash the inside of the cup first. Purify your motivation and clear afflictive emotions through honest self-examination.
Matthew 23:26 — “Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.” ☕️
4. A Pot Already Full (No Room Left) The vessel is crammed with other contents — no space remains for new nectar. Your mind is overloaded with self-centered thoughts, opinions, distractions, past experiences, or clutter. There’s no room to receive fresh wisdom.
Antidote: Empty yourself. Practice letting through silence, meditation, or mindful breathing before engaging. Make space by releasing attachments and preconceptions.
5. Pot That Leaks (Cannot Retain)
The vessel has holes or cracks. What enters drains away. “In one ear and out the other.” You hear or understand but fail to retain, reflect or integrate. Without retention, wisdom never deepens.
Antidote: Learn to retain it. Actively remember by taking notes, reviewing, discussing with others, or immediately applying small insights in daily life. Repetition and reflection seal the cracks.
Listening begins with silence and presence. To receive wisdom, you must first prepare the vessel:
1. turn it upright
2. remove the cover
3. empty it
4. clean it inside
5. ensure it holds
This teaching is universal. The quality of your receiving determines the depth of your transformation. When the vessel is sound, even ordinary moments become opportunities for profound wisdom. A well-prepared heart receives the nectar/seed and bears fruit the Spirit gives! 🍎
