Meta the first major defector from the voluntary EU AI code of practice. The Americans are inching closer to overt disobedience of European tech regulations. cnbc.com/amp/2025/07/18…

Here are the lengths to which an individual will go to escape medieval oppression and live free in the West. Don’t you think our immigration policy should make room for freedom-lovers like this?
Pouya Nikmand@PNikmand

My name is Pouya. I’m twenty-five years old, and I live in Austin, Texas. I escaped Iran by myself when I was eighteen. It took me seven years to reach freedom, four of which I was forced to live as a slave.

I found a new super power this week from Invest like the Best. Asking ChatGPT what questions it has before proceeding to an answer allows you to really enhance the clarity of the prompt. x.com/patrick_oshag/…

Ravi @GuptaRK22 is in a unique seat to assess the landscape today He’s investing at the tech frontier from Sequoia, but also has experience running large orgs He thinks companies need to embrace AI ASAP Those that do have a huge opportunity Those that don’t face a huge risk

My least favorite regulation is 14CFR 91.817—which prohibits supersonic flight regardless of noise profile. But it's easy to fix to allow boomless supersonic flight.

Apparently we’re running a surplus now as a country right? I mean no sane country would raise taxes or borrow money just to speculate on stuff right?

@HotAisle @tunguz @nvidia @AMD I do hope they can get it right at some point. Being able to drive down the cost of compute will free up capital to be able to do more interesting things in other parts of the stack.

@HotAisle @tunguz @nvidia @AMD I also don't think that GPUs is the only place where historically had poor software. A lifetime ago (it seems now) we were using Intel's libraries for fast image processing. AMD didn't really have a competitive offering at the time.

Today @SemiAnalysis published their extremely comprehensive, detailed, and honest report on performance comparison between @NVIDIA's H100/H200 GPUs and @AMD's MI300X. 1/9

Today, there is a single company that dominates ALL of the hardware and software for AI. If AI is truly a transformative technology, like the internet, ending up with Cisco dominating all the routers, would be a bad thing. Thankfully, software tends to iterate faster than hardware. Given that AMD has built, on paper, a great hardware platform, fixing the software should be the easier part. Assuming they can also morph culturally to support that. History has repeated itself. We're back in the Mac vs. PC software days, and we know how that worked out.

@CliffordAsness I love how there are bots shilling trading in the comments. The bots certainly have a sense of humor.

What is happening with @WordPress is a terrific example of why open source governance is so important. Governance...don't adopt a project without it.

Create a Brobdingnagian monstrosity of 1.2m lines of Haskell. That way, the tooling you create to make working on it tolerable will be practically instant on codebases that don’t need 18 lanes for a 3 point turn. (With love and appreciation, @mercury)

This, full credit to @yaronbrook, once existed out there as a well edited mini movie. I can no longer find it and wanted to reference it in my own podcast. Well, here it is - not in its full glory, but you get the message which is the most important thing!
