The Illinois State Board of Education held a meeting at Glenbard South. It was a great opportunity to discuss issues facing local districts and services for students with disabilities.

Our office has a knitting and crocheting group, Unraveled, that meets twice a month. We are making hats and scarves to donate to local shelters in the winter months. All ages and skill levels are welcomed.

Illinois and District 46 are home to fantastic Parks and Recreation Programs. Not only do our park districts offer great outdoor facilities, there are also activities and classes for all ages.

The new state budget improves access to quality, affordable healthcare in our underserved communities, our cities and suburbs, and our small towns. I worked to commit critical funding to health providers in at-risk communities.

By prioritizing spending and going line-by-line, our state budget saves for the future while still investing in our most critical services. We’re growing our rainy day fund to more than $2 billion to keep Illinois moving forward through any future challenges.

A few years ago, Illinois was deep in debt. Today, we’ve eliminated the bill backlog, we’re paying down short-term debt, and we’re reducing pension liabilities by putting in 200 million more than required and we’re saving taxpayers billions of dollars in the process.

A college education shouldn’t come with a lifetime of debt. That’s why I worked for a state budget that helps colleges and universities reduce costs and expand opportunity, while making major investments in financial aid.

I’m working to build a true cradle-to-career path for all of our young people with historic investments in education at all levels: early childhood education, stronger schools, affordable college, and job training.

Every family deserves access to safe and enriching childcare. I supported a state budget that invests in affordable childcare for all.

The budget I supported delivers $350 million in new funding for classroom education to continue our effort to ensure every student has access to a world-class education.

By making enriching childcare more affordable, and early learning programs more accessible, Illinois’ new Smart Start Initiative sets students on the path to succeed before entering grade school.
