Inclusion isn’t about what’s “wrong” with a child. It’s about what might be getting in the way. That might be: - The environment - Expectations - Relationships - How support is structured When we shift the focus, new possibilities open up. When a child is struggling, behaviour is often the first thing we notice. But it’s rarely the whole story. Behaviour can be a signal that something is getting in the way of: - Feeling safe - Feeling understood - Being able to take part Inclusion starts when we pause and ask: What might this child be communicating? What might need to change around them? Explore more in our blog on how Thrive supports inclusion: eu1.hubs.ly/H0tCXmV0

Join us for a practical conversation on what the Schools White Paper really means for inclusion across your trust. We’re bringing together Thrive's Tom Preston and Viv Trask-Hall, alongside guest speaker Liz Murray (SEND Director, Supporting Education Group), to explore what it takes to deliver inclusion consistently, at scale. Most trusts understand the expectations. The challenge is making it work across every school. Capacity is stretched. Needs are rising. And what works in one setting doesn’t always translate. Drawing on new research from Thrive and ImpactEd, based on 1,000+ education professionals, we’ll unpack where delivery breaks down - and what to do about it. You’ll learn: - What the White Paper means in practice for trust-wide inclusion - Where delivery tends to break down across schools - Why some approaches don’t scale - and what to do instead - How to use new investment to build capacity across your trust - How to assess and strengthen inclusion readiness If you’re responsible for inclusion across multiple schools, this will give you a clearer path forward. Save your place: eu1.hubs.ly/H0tvbnP0 Can’t join live? Sign up and we’ll send the recording.

Inclusion isn’t what’s written in a policy. It’s what children experience every day. Whether they feel they belong. Whether they know they matter. Whether they can take part in learning and school life. If those conditions aren’t there, inclusion isn’t fully in place. Schools understand this. The challenge is having the time, capacity and shared approach to make it consistent. See what schools are saying in our latest Inclusion Readiness report: eu1.hubs.ly/H0t9jZd0

What difference does a whole school approach to wellbeing, behaviour and inclusion make in schools? Our new independent evaluation with ImpactEd highlights some clear patterns. Schools using Thrive are seeing: 27% lower exclusion rates than the national average Primary exclusions down 52%, secondary down 35% Improved wellbeing for pupils with SEND, despite national trends Up to 38% lower rates of severe absence in highly engaged schools Stronger staff wellbeing, morale and confidence But the numbers only tell part of the story. Schools also report calmer learning environments, more consistent responses to behaviour and children who feel safe and ready to learn. These results show what is possible with early support, strong relationships, and a deep understanding of social, emotional and mental health. If you want to create a more inclusive school where all children feel safe, supported and ready to learn, read the full ImpactEd evaluation. Explore the full report eu1.hubs.ly/H0tbj-V0

Belonging influences how we show up, how confident we feel and whether we choose to participate. Children and young people experience this every day in school environments. When they feel safe, recognised and included, they are more able to engage, build relationships and take part in learning. In this video, Sarah Browne shares practical ways schools can create stronger conditions for belonging: • Calm, predictable spaces that reduce anxiety • Consistent routines that support regulation • Listening to pupil voice, especially those less often heard • Representation that helps children feel seen in their environment When children feel they belong, confidence grows, engagement strengthens and learning becomes more accessible. We asked 1,000+ educators about inclusion. Here's what we learned. Schools are clear on what’s expected. But capacity is stretched too thin to deliver it consistently, alongside everything else schools are managing. - 85% say expectations are clear - Only 23% have enough time and staffing - 69% report strain on staff wellbeing When capacity is in place, outcomes look very different. Readiness for joined-up delivery more than doubles (41% to 92%). This isn’t a question of commitment. What’s missing is the capacity to do it well. We need to build the capacity that makes inclusion possible. Walking alongside families is one of our Inclusive Practice Principles. Sarah Browne shares why treating families as collaborators helps you better understand the child’s world and build trust that supports long-term progress. Clear communication. Flexibility when pressures arise. Advocacy that keeps the child at the centre. Because when families and educators work together, children feel safer, understood and ready to learn. Due to government funding changes and the withdrawal of the Operations Manager standard, we’ve had to confirm that our Thrive Leadership Apprenticeships will be ending. The May cohort is the final opportunity to join this funded leadership route, and we won’t be running these programmes again. We’re hosting a short virtual open day this Thursday 26 March, to give a clear overview of the two pathways, what the experience looks like in practice, how it fits alongside your role, and what you can expect to gain. These programmes combine nationally recognised Level 5 leadership training with Thrive Practitioner training, supporting educators to lead people, manage projects effectively, and build Thrive’s SEMH expertise to better understand and support children and young people. If you are leading a team, stepping into leadership, or developing future leaders, this is the point to explore your options before the opportunity closes. Headteachers like Zoe at Hereford Learning Hub value the Thrive Wellbeing Leadership Apprenticeship for developing new skills, strengthening teams, and embedding Thrive expertise in their setting. Just months in, Zoe has noticed a real change in her colleague Toni: "I’ve noticed Toni’s confidence grow since starting - it’s been a pleasure to see her develop her strengths. The apprenticeship has been pivotal for us and central to developing the culture of our setting." “To other employers considering a Thrive apprenticeship, I’d say it’s absolutely necessary.” Following the recent Level 5 Operational Manager defunding announcements, one of the most accessible, funded routes into senior leadership development is being removed. Remaining available places for our May 2026 cohort have been capped, and applications are being processed on a first-come, first-served basis. If you're an employer considering enrolling a colleague on a Thrive Apprenticeship pathway or a learner considering applying, read Zoe’s full perspective eu1.hubs.ly/H0sPdhX0 #Apprenticeships #SkillsSector #FELeadership

Did you have a role model growing up who felt relatable? Someone who looked like you, shared your background, or showed you what was possible? When children see people like them achieving and contributing, their sense of possibility expands. Our next Inclusive Principle, Celebrating Identity, Story and Place, asks us to think differently. Children’s identities, cultures and communities are not barriers to overcome. They are strengths to recognise and celebrate. So what does that look like in practice? It means creating spaces where pupils see their cultures and communities reflected in the curriculum. It means having open conversations about families, neighbourhoods and backgrounds. It means highlighting role models and success stories from the communities around us. Because when children feel proud of who they are and where they come from, they are more likely to feel they belong. In this video, Sarah Browne explores how schools can create environments where identity, heritage and individual success are recognised and celebrated. Leadership and management apprenticeship defunding has now been confirmed following the government’s review. If you’re a current or aspiring leader planning your next step, or a senior leader reviewing how you will develop your workforce, this change matters. Two Thrive Apprenticeship pathways expected to be affected are: • Thrive Wellbeing Leadership Apprenticeship (Level 5) • Thrive Advanced Practitioner Leadership Apprenticeship Both programmes combine practical SEMH expertise with a nationally recognised Level 5 Operations Manager qualification, helping schools strengthen leadership while embedding a whole-school approach to wellbeing. £9,000 of funded training is currently available. Applications are open for our May 2026 intake, and demand is expected to increase following these announcements. If you’ve been considering this route, now is the time to explore it before any changes take effect. Read the blog to understand what’s changing and what it could mean for your school. eu1.hubs.ly/H0sHrPK0
