@Devin_Heroux As a former event ice technician, can honestly say that no matter how much you prepare and run the numbers on equipment in terms of capacity, it is always a hope we can make the best ice in any building. Once glass is out any arena air handling system can/will impact the ice

Hearing from the curlers that the ice was melting out there today. The ice crew has done everything they can to improve the conditions here in Halifax. But the conditions have greatly impacted play at the Olympics Curling Trials.

@nicsulsky @grandslamcurl @thecurlinggroup Love seeing this, I brought this up in 2019 at the world jrs…thought GoPro cams at each hogline would do the trick but was told more precision was needed as video could/would be inconclusive if the hand was truly off the stone at release. Change is hard but change is good!

I do enjoy getting criticized on a social media platform I'm not on by a legend of Curling. If he did troll me here, I would've shown him what we actually tested in Nisku 👀 How you like dem apples? 🤣 Hey curlers...Hogline violation testing IS underway 🧐

@liberal_party How will the party plan on doing this? Do we even know the full extent (let alone any) of the parties platform? Damage control is not a platform that Canadians need right now from the government that inflicted the damage. Tick tock times up red

@MarkJCarney You honestly think saving a middle class income earner 825 a year is making a difference? You are out of touch with our current state of an economy sir. I think you should sit this one out and get to know our country a little better, hasn’t been the same Canada since 2015…

Our new middle-class tax cut will help Canadians keep more of what they earn and build a stronger Canada in the face of President Trump’s tariffs. We’ll help families save up to $825 a year — with middle and lower income earners benefitting the most.

@blaing99 Whether or not a technical site visit was completed, normally they’d be completed in the summer and are always tough to fully predict if the buildings current equipment would be adequate for the time of year of the event. As much as it is a science there’s a lot of luck required

Behind the scenes action at The Brier from last night. It’s been an interesting start to the week.😳 Massive credit to Greg Ewasko and his team for retro-fitting this place on the fly. Some foresight and planning may have saved Greg from aging 10 years in the last 3 days?🤷🏻‍♂️

@wall2wallice lol. I didn’t want to choose a photo of one ice technician to the exclusion of all others. So I excluded all yo faces! Keep up all the great stuff you do 😊

It's #ThankAnIceTech week! An opportunity to celebrate those who work behind the scenes to provide conditions for Canadians to play their favourite sport. From local club to championship event, nothing happens without them. I'm grateful. Thank you 🙏 ➡️ curling.ca/blog/2025/01/1…

@ryanfry79 Already did it against Ed Werenich’s 1990 World Championship team with Kawaja, Tetley and Harrison at an Olympic Qualifier. Werenich had to draw the 4 ft to win 8-7. 30 years later, with 3 decent non Grand Slam Players ,we both put in $5K and the Italians have to win by 2 +

If you have 4 club curlers and a healthy bank account - I encourage you to reach out to set up a game. I have a decent Italian team that would love to take your money. Your comment is….? Help me out curling world.
McGavin@BMac5hdcp

@EricChantigny @ryanfry79 Keep in mind that curling is probably the only sport that 4 Club players can give a World Championship team a run for their money. Try that in Golf, 4 best club players against 4 pros… no chance. Same in Hockey, Baseball, Football, Tennis etc…no chance.

@StephLD I don’t think that a tiebreaker scenario that would probably happen once every 30 years will have an impact on anybody’s longevity. Now that doesn’t mean I think we should of played 3 full rounds of tiebreakers. I just had fun sketching it up 😂

I tried to write down what would of happened if the playoff bracket included tiebreakers for ALL the teams who finished tied (3 TB rounds for pool A and 1 TB round for pool B). After a solid 10 minutes, I’ve finally came up with it. My beain hurts!

@cullenoncurling Unfortunately you’re wrong. The fact it was only 2 was the polite thing to do with all the cameras involved with TV. In a local cash spiel that could’ve easily been pushed to 3 with the case BC was trying to make. Local spiels don’t have the luxury of all the cameras and replay

I’m not saying it wasn’t Kayla who committed the infraction, it was. I just think in a cashspiel situation, Emily would defer. It’s just the way curling has always worked, typically it’s the non-offending team that has to make a decision and chooses the polite one.

The funny part about that BC/MB situation is that if it’s an event without officials it’s for sure going on the board as 1. In a “she said/she said” situation, almost always the team in MB’s situation would defer

@fasselin94 Forgot to mention, the picture taken is from the side tv was shooting to, that side of the stands had more spectators in the seats where the picture was taken from.

@fasselin94 This picture doesn’t really do it justice. Being there and running the Refigeration system speaks otherwise to your point. There was actually a pretty decent number of people in the building, most where standing on the concourse for a better and warmer view of the ice.

The bonspiel held this weekend at my local club has more fans in the stands than last week’s Grand Slam. It’s somewhat of a joke but it also isn’t. When you really think about it, it’s a BIG problem

@fasselin94 I agree number of fans in the stands are low across the board for the majority of televised events, but television viewership numbers are just as important to the event sponsors.
