It is instructive to note that we are at an inflection point at the intersection of human behaviour, philosophy, and cognitive science. In every system, there are architects, gatekeepers, change agents, and the masses. It is often difficult to distil the commander’s intent of political architects through the attenuation created by gatekeepers and the immaturity of pretend change agents, which further confuses the vulnerable and impressionable masses. President @officialABAT has exhibited his proficiency in building political structures that withstand the test of time. It is not a sign of weakness to admit the potency of his succession plan as modelled in Lagos over the years and the trajectory of steady development in the state. He came into power with a bold vision of combating issues that are better avoided and has been living with the consequences of that choice. Given the obvious fact that people often focus on phototropism (obvious and spectacular occurrences) rather than gravitropism (what lies beneath the cultural iceberg) some of these speculations may be excused on the surface. But in reality, things are deeper than they seem. A foundation is being built no doubt but it is not one built around any personality at the expense of our ailing institutions. I may have a different point of view on certain issues but none of us can pretend to see what the president sees daily and must respect his rationale for taking some positions that may not go down well with us from where we stand. His reelection bid is for the consolidation of the policies, plans, and programs set in motion, most of which we are beginning to see the resultant impact. Long-term plans are necessary for sustainable nation-building against the morbid demand for fleeting short-term rewards and this is where he has chosen to draw the line. He is not trying to impress anyone with performative actions but has grounded himself in leaving a legacy. If this presents to anyone as a means to rule forever, it remains a subjective projection of such an individual and not necessarily the true situation of things. 🇳🇬
