@BMcCloskey_98 they have low breeding success rate here in PL. Yet realisticly they will be doable in the nesthole by end of April, optimisticly by mid May. Then also possible in the night incidentally (by late May). I also put terpentine to avoid martens near that hole.

@wildlifeguidePL Hi Oliwier, great pics. Any idea what stage of breeding the Tengmalm’s is at? How many more weeks would you expect it to be in the nest?

Just came back from super succesful Early Spring Tour to Białowieża Forest. In a group of 6 participants in five days we had 9 sp. of woodpeckers, Pygmy & Tengmalm's Owl, Nutcracker, Hazel Grouse + Wolf, Bison, Elk, Beaver. Dates for 2027 edition are 1st-5th April, DM for details

As well as some good mammals (Wolves, multiple Bisons, a few Elks, Beaver, Red Deer, Red Squirrel, Roe Deers, Red Fox) & other fauna representatives including a nice spectacle of displaying Moor Frogs. A typical early spring in the Białowieża Forest.

In 5 days had 9 species of woodpeckers (most seen at least twice: White-backed, Middle spotted, Grey-headed, Green, Black, Lesser Spotted, Great Spotted, Three-toed, Syrian), Nutcracker, Hazel Grouse, Tengmalm’s Owl, Pygmy Owl (3 times!) & about 70 more species... Decent birding

Elks (Moose) are still in their winter habitats in NE Poland - conifer woods. Soon they will move towards marshes to feed on some fresh greenery, including their favorite willows & marsh marigolds.

A daily life of Pygmy Owls in NE Poland. The male calls from the entrance to the treehole, inviting the female inside; she accepts his invitation and they mate inside. This nesthole is just 200 metres away from last year’s, also in aspen tree. 🔊

@HOlbrycht84085 Wilków oficjalnych danych nie ma, ale moim zdaniem (starsze dane z IBS + "ekspercka" korekta) jest 40-50, z tym że po tej zimie i świerzbie, myślę że to bliżej dolnej granicy. Rysi raczej max kilkanaście.
