What are you even talking about. It is fully artificial. It is not the same as human intelligence. It's just a brilliant recall machine This doesn't even take into account the wholesale theft of intellectual property without paying any royalties or citing sources when training the models

When was the last time he shot on film? It seems to me that the only people that have to make these fire and brimstone speeches about ai are people that shoot on digital, but the folks that have stuck with film and practical effects seem to pay no mind to it. It's just digital swallowing digital, nothing more. And film sits outside of all that, completely untouched by that digital ouroboros cycle. I'm not a fan of ai art either, but I just don't care about it. It's just not my bag. Creating my game art and music by hand is something that gives me great pleasure and meaning. But that doesn't mean that ai doesn't have its positives too. I recently started vibe coding like a mo'fo and am shocked by what it can turn out. My next game is probably going to be shot out significantly faster than my five year headache that I'm still trying to wrap up.

@AVARY Ironically, his argument is one from igorance. he's offended it exists, afraid he's going to have to compete with hoards of new creators. it's clear he hasn't used it. and he hasn't seen the people skilled at using it. i feel sad of artists afraid of new tools that aid expression

It’s not stupid, but it’s also incapable of interpreting, much less producing Hermetic symbolism on its own. You know - like Uma outlining a monolith shape while calling it a square. Remember that bit from Pulp Fiction? As far as I know, only humans can grok Kubrick/Oz symbolism.

@AVARY Behind every prompt is a human directing the scenes. When I make music/videos with AI, the AI comes up with nothing on its own. The ideas are all mine. I'm the director, the producer, and the editor, and I still do about half of the writing. AI predjudice is the same as any other

Can I ask u a real questions ! What happens if all art stores close to marrow? What are we left with? What happens if ppl stopped buying paper, pens, markers school supplies because the needs just stopped? Now we are in a funk where pc laptops are now downgrading u pay 5x more the price because tech is also suffering too! Wake up this is actually happening in the real world and he’s warning u! Look at fry’s electronics it is a good example and reminder that this history is repeating and should be a eye opener ^ where we are heading

@AVARY The answer to this problem - if it even is a problem - is for the best of the best filmmakers in the world to embrace the tech and push it's to its limits. Set the bar.

@AVARY Indeed. To be stupid, it would have to have some form of intelligence, and it doesn't and it never will. It's a simulation of intelligence.

@AVARY Actually a good point! Back when LLMs were glorified autocomplete, "artificial intelligence" felt like a reasonable label. But if machine intelligence eventually rivals or exceeds our own, "artificial" starts sounding less like a description and more like a coping mechanism.

@AVARY or he just prefers every single part of an artistic project to be created by actual, real human beings, and you don't, and this is why you are frustrated with his opinion, instead of just accepting that other people disagree with you

AI is like Baskin-Robbins … because there are at least 31 flavors of AI … and they all taste different. My son is being recruited by D1 schools as a punter. So the other night, I asked Chat to list for me Power 4 schools that will have punters that are Seniors this upcoming year, the average number of punts for certain schools, and the averages over the past four seasons. And it did it — really quickly. Could I have done it? Sure … but it would have taken a bunch of time. This is one flavor of AI — maybe vanilla. I use AI in the editing of photos — call that chocolate chip. Then you can get into generative AI … or AI voices … or AI agents … Piña colada, Daiquiri, and Cookies & Cream. And correct me if I'm wrong, but while Del Toro uses a bunch of practical effects, he's not Nolan. I love Pacific Rim (and Del Toro) — but there's a lot of CGI animation in that movie. So what's effective difference between CGI and AI imagery? I don't know … I just think lumping everything under the AI label is about as useful as trying to order something hot and fresh at Baskin-Robbins.

@AVARY so say in the 90s a generative AI had been trained to consume kung fu movies, blackspoitation films, gangster classics etc and then it farts out a pulp fiction script but with none of the aura, finesse and grit of Pulp fiction. Are you saying you'd have been be cool with that?

@AVARY Maybe he should ask AI to polish his scripts - Frankenstein & Pacific Rim were beyond awful. He's down with slop, as long as he makes it.

AI creates what humans prompt it to create and does that by drawing from everything humans have ever created. It’s a symbiotic relationship humans benefit by creating more in less time, AI benefits by learning more and having more to draw from, which in turn benefits humans even more.
