Cheti Chand is a New Year celebration for Sindhi Hindus which also commemorates the birth anniversary of Sai Jhulelal also known as Uderolal or Dariyalal. Around the 10th century, Sindh came under the rule of a tyrant named Mirkshah who started threatening Sindhi Hindus to either convert to Islam or face death. Sindhis Prayed to the Varuna Deva (Devata of Water) to protect them from this forced conversion. After forty days of worship, Varuna Deva promised them that a divine child would be born in Nasarpur who would save them from Mirkshah. This divine child was born as Uderolal (Jhulelal), the saviour of Sindhis, whose birth anniversary is till today celebrated on Cheti Chand by the Sindhis as Jhulelal Jayanti.
