@CodeRed_dev My personal experience I disagree
I am not perfect
Therefore my work isn't either
Always room for improvement and open to suggestions an criticism
But we try our best
English

@CodeRed_dev I find it the opposite, I'm constantly pessimistic about my games😫
English

@CodeRed_dev Counter argument: I keep reworking everything because nothing is ever good enough.
English

@CodeRed_dev This is the #1 most important element of gamedev to understand. We have to subtract our feelings of sunk cost, as well as the satisfaction we gain from completing difficult and elegant tasks. Hard work != fun game. Not all systems return a good gameplay loop.
English

@CodeRed_dev You sure?, half the time all I see are things to improve
English

@CodeRed_dev Can't relate. I always feel like my game is boring and I have to constantly change things everyday. I doubt any worker satisfy about their works.
English

@CodeRed_dev Being your own critic is tough! You need to ask yourself the most important question while playing your own game: are you having fun? If you are, someone else certainly will!
English

@CodeRed_dev My problem is always admitting that my work needs improvement right now, which means I keep reworking it and getting to the point where if I don't do so soon, I might as well give up.
English

@CodeRed_dev can't relate my games running on hope and tape
English

@CodeRed_dev Its a tough balance because sometimes you can also be too strict on yourself on certain things and never get anything done because "it could be done better"
I prefer to fail fast, solo playtest, make adjustments, get people to playtest, make more adjustments.
English

@CodeRed_dev That happens with every creative field. Best thing is to have good friends that will point things you lack and give suggestions, without fear and without you feeling attacked.
This will bring a big improvement.
English

@CodeRed_dev It’s either you believe the game is the greatest thing ever made or it’s the biggest pile of trash humanity could ever bare witness to.
English

@CodeRed_dev Ego is always the cause of the downfall of a bad game.
English

@CodeRed_dev It could be that I have no filter or something but I just straight up say my game is shit. Basic but not great.
English

@CodeRed_dev i often find i dont see flaws in my games til i step away for 4+ months
English

@CodeRed_dev For us I think it'd the opposite🤔 We always feel like we could have done things better haha
English

@CodeRed_dev I'm like 10x more objective/critical of my game if I've been away from it for a few months
English

@CodeRed_dev Criticism can suck. But it is the only way to grow.
English

@CodeRed_dev As others have noted small imperfections in your designs often bother you more than they bother the average gamer. Of course gamers will also find things to nitpick about your design that you never thought they would. It goes both ways 😅
English

@CodeRed_dev In my case. I can only see thibgs to be improved. Comparisons hurt as well. Just keep on improving and naje the gane better than yesterday
English

@CodeRed_dev oh, mine needs improvement ... lol. just gotta keep working. Will it ever be good? that's the question I can't answer.
English

@CodeRed_dev On a side note… I’ve also noticed gamers/consumers are more critical of indie work than mainstream.
English

@CodeRed_dev Oh not me. I know it's trash. I will probably think it's trash UNTIL I hear play testers insist it's fun.
English

@CodeRed_dev my issue is I'm constantly trying to improve my code and never make any real progress.
English

@CodeRed_dev If we admit something needs improvement, then the game will never get finished.
English

@CodeRed_dev I'm not sure you're supposed to be objective about your own work. it isn't supposed to be anything but what you want it to be.
English

@CodeRed_dev Holy crap I need to stop reading comments. 😆 here I hope this helps since we forgot what objective means

English

@CodeRed_dev I don’t think people know what objective means.
English

@CodeRed_dev This goes for basically all self assessments. And knowing is half the battle!

English

@CodeRed_dev External input can be so beneficial, new eyes on things you've seen for 500 hours may reveal nuance you hadn't considered, it's part of why QA and early testing are so important (and something I love to do)
English

@CodeRed_dev I strongly disagree. What is always difficult is to consider that your game's quality is sufficient!
English

@CodeRed_dev when you start out you don't see the faults 🤔
as you get more experienced and get better
you start to only see the faults 😔
English

@CodeRed_dev Which then goes hand-in-hand with an odd perfectionism that means nothing is quite good enough.
English

@CodeRed_dev The best solution is leaving it for a while, and then test it again and then you'll know the good parts and the wrong parts.
