I do have a bit of a beef with this Solo dev thing. There are 2 of us doing the dev Everyday designing the game and putting it all together, but we have support as well ofc sounds FXs is another guy and Music another. we give credit to everyone one that works with us,even our testers. No man is an Island.

@CodeRed_dev Ya i say "tiny team", since there's two of us, and we occasionally bring on an artist for a month here and there.

I'm so fucking tired of fair-weather influencers and gamers throwing their weight around on the ethics of gamedev as developers burn the candle at both ends, in the trenches, grinding themselve to pulp on the actual realities of gamedev, the endless pains that these goofballs will never know, that the artists will never know, that the level designers will never know. I'm coming off a grueling session of dev, so I'm in a mood, but I could not give less of a shit what these know-nothings goobers think about a technical realm they have no fucking concept of and never will have any concept of, because they lack the willingness to put themselves through this bullshit. But they're more than happy to go online to reap the easily seized karma of virtue whoring. Just fuck right off. You want to steer the dialogue of gamedev? You want to talk shit? Get in the ring, let's see how well you fair at this grueling endeavor, then maybe you'll have something of relevance to say.

@CodeRed_dev What if it literally means designing the game, writing code with only small libraries/addons, creating artwork, composing music, and promoting your game yourself? I'll drop it when someone I trust starts helping me.

@CodeRed_dev I fully intend to be a solo dev though. And I don't consider it as pointless. It's about realizing a singular vision. Too many indie devs see gamedev as a business and then wonder why their games end up as something that doesn't pass the art litmus test.

@CodeRed_dev It's the same as 'indie' games with 10 mil+ budgets and hundreds of people in the credits.

@CodeRed_dev Exactly why I never call myself a solo dev LOL Seeing stuff like this really bothers me. I have two friends who help whenever they can, and even if it's contract work, it's still a team effort.

@CodeRed_dev Well, when entire teams of people stop calling themselves indie just to compete against solo individuals in "indie spotlights", we won't have to.

@CodeRed_dev i mine my own silicon purely for the title of "solo dev" although to be fair I don't think I made the element of silicon so I should probably credit the guy who made that

@CodeRed_dev Why don't people use musicians as a reference? You’re creating an album (your game), and you’re either in a band with others (team) or a solo act (solo dev) working with featured artists and collaborators.

@CodeRed_dev If someone wants to be labeled as a solo dev, I am ok with that, it means nothing... But practically no good game can be made in a vacuum. I am making everything myself and still I will credit the game engine, my wife for constant feedback, any play testers I use till launch...

@CodeRed_dev Same thing as people doodling pictures alone calling themselves artists. If nobody is willing to pay you a living wage for your work, how can you claim to have earned the title? Most indie games are really really bad.

@CodeRed_dev For me, the only other side of game dev that can be handled by someone other than yourself and still earn you the title of "solo dev" is sound and music. Other than that, you have a dev team. Unless it's for just a few elements. But as you say, the title really doesn't matter.

@CodeRed_dev For one of the games I'm currently working on I'm coding it, doing the 2D and 3D art, I wrote the engine and tools, I'm also the designer and content builder as well as doing the SFX. I would imagine that's most peoples image of a solo dev yet I'm still working with a musician.

@CodeRed_dev When I stop procrastinating and actually make my game I'm putting myself in the credits for everything I make. Cant decide if I do it really short and just put "everything" Or I list it all out with my name in different fonts
