@SteveOnSpeed If I were in that position, and knew nothing about nutrition, I think I'd just stop eating altogether. It's been done.
English

@SteveOnSpeed Surprised you’re a cruise guy…. Never catch me on one of those things

@SteveOnSpeed I’m not 500 lbs but still fat. I’m trying hard for the first time at the age of 70. I have no health concerns and I’ve been fortunate. Being hungry won’t kill me but being fat just might. My new outlook. Down 16 lbs. and feeling great.
English

@SteveOnSpeed Our last cruise was absolutely full of very, very overweight people like that. I think they go on cruises for the buffet. (I know it sounds mean, but damn, people.)
English

@SteveOnSpeed seeing someone struggling with their weight often masks deeper emotional battles they're facing.
understanding this can transform our judgment into empathy, creating space for meaningful conversations about health and happiness.

@SteveOnSpeed Her choices reflect a disconnection from nature’s design for balance and self-mastery. Focus on your own alignment with reason, not the externals of others.
English

@SteveOnSpeed For the few I know personally, it's a psychological addiction. There's allegedly no such thing as physiological food addiction. But yeah, these folks can't stop eating for whatever reason. They will literally eat themselves to death.
English

@SteveOnSpeed Many obese women are untreated sexual abuse survivors. Big can feel safe.
English

@SteveOnSpeed It's a 'thyroid issue'
I'm sure it'll clear up soon
English

@SteveOnSpeed Some people really don’t have the energy, knowledge, or support to change their habits. Others might struggle with medical conditions, genetics, mental health, or emotional eating. And yes, some have accepted their lifestyle and just prioritize comfort or enjoyment in the moment.
English

@SteveOnSpeed There is no problem if you choose to not accept the problem as valid.
English

@SteveOnSpeed I cannot imagine how people like that manage to work and pay for food housing and vacations. Who is enabling them?
English

@SteveOnSpeed Don’t worry, you will be footing their medical bills via Medicare and Medicaid👍
English

@SteveOnSpeed Sometimes it’s a trauma response from severe childhood abuse and a form of adaptation and coping. For better or worse…
English

@SteveOnSpeed It's an addiction like any other, they can't just stop. And going cold turkey isn't an option.
English

No. Some do not. They find every reason in the book for doing it and will claim they don't overeat. They've been defending their eating habits for years, so it hardly bothers them anymore. That is why they are where they are. Lost in the food and the emotional satisfaction it provides. They are used to being huge and stared at. They don't care anymore.
English

@SteveOnSpeed Sounds like the cruise might be the final hurrah if you ask me. Can't live like that and survive too much longer.

@SteveOnSpeed Cruise shippers have never been a bastion of personal fitness.
It's all you can eat.
English

@SteveOnSpeed They are probably legitimately hungry. 600 lbs is a lot to feed. I suspect not feeding is exponentially more uncomfortable the bigger you are. We can only harvest so much fat from our body, particularly if we are insulin resistant.
English

@SteveOnSpeed Sometimes it’s not about care, it’s about struggle people don’t see.
English

I think food addiction plays a massive role. Of course they need some discipline to get back on track, but those foods and what we’re served here in the US as the ‘standard American diet’ are engineered to be addictive. For some, it’s very hard to get out of and society made it way to acceptable to be fat, too, so the incentives are low, unfortunately .
English

@SteveOnSpeed Don’t you think once someone reaches this level of morbid obesity it just MAY be an eating disorder? Don’t be so quick to judge.
ED’s are not simply anorexia or bulimia, they describe disordered eating patterns and the disordered relationship with food.
English

@SteveOnSpeed Im a big guy...but have never eaten how many very obese people i saw on cruises. One guy in particular had 4 plates at breakfast piled high...two cereal bowls of syrup and he dipped every bite in the syrup....he made 3 trips on his scooter back to the buffet. Total of 12 plates.
