We lived in Canning Town and round about Easter time catholic children were confirmed. Our dad used to take me and me sister over to Poplar to see the Catholic march. There would be banners and bagpipes. Large statues were carried. All the boys and girls dressed in white. I dunno if it was the same time that catholic families would build a grotto for the priest to bless as they past by.
