Ube turning into a global "trend" is bittersweet. I love seeing Filipino flavors get the spotlight, but I hope people remember it's not just a purple aesthetic, it comes from real farmers who are often paid the bare minimum while brands overseas get more credit and money.

UBE CRAZE IS HERE ๐ Kumita ang Pilipinas ng higit $3 million o P174 million sa pag-eexport ng ube at ube-based products noong 2025, ayon sa Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). Ayon sa DTI, mas lumakas ngayon ang demand sa ube products sa iba't ibang panig ng mundo gaya ng ube powder, puree, halaya, at flavor extracts. Ine-export ng Pilipinas ang mga produktong ube sa ilang pangunahing merkado gaya sa Middle East, United States, United Kingdom, at Italy. Maging sa China at Japan, ginagamit na ngayon ang ube sa paggawa ng pastries, dairy-based ice cream, frozen yogurt, matatamis na biskwit, at cookies.

I used to like IFLS when I was younger, bc they picked out really interesting articles that could hook even people outside of STEM. Nowadays I dislike how clickbait-y they've gotten.
As someone who's done (peer-reviewed!) research on CHIKV, this feels like fearmongering. (1/5)
