The CAT Team is excited to announce that we will partner with I-29 Dragway - Iowa again this year to offer free passes to both the drag strip and the burnout pit to local car enthusiasts. CAT Team members will be giving them out at local car meetups and possibly to the occasional arrestee as well. Be on the lookout for CAT members at local meetups or contact us to invite the CAT to our event.
Thank you to I-29 for being a partner on public safety and donating the passes!
You can contact the CAT Team at DCSOCat@douglascounty-ne.gov

Huge thank you to Volcanic Bikes for their donation of two new bikes to kickstart the DCSO's Bike Patrol. Volcanic Bikes is a great company, located here in Omaha, that builds tough, performance ready, and reliable bikes for law enforcement.
The DCSO Bike Patrol will operate around the Douglas County Courthouse, The Heartwood Preserve city hub area off 144th and Dodge Streets, and the various trails around unincorporated Douglas County.

๐ Information on Electric Bikes and Off-Road Vehicles ๐ฒ
The DCSO receives many complaints about two-wheelers commonly referred to as โelectric bikesโ. There can be confusion regarding their street legality. We hope to clear up the confusion with this post.
Many parents think their childโs ride is legal when it is actually not. Hereโs an easy way to tell:
โ
A LEGAL electric bicycle has fully operative petals and cuts off power at a maximum of 28 miles per hour.
Many times, what people call an electric bicycle is actually an electric motorcycle or dirt bike. Those are not street or sidewalk legal. Riding of an electric motorcycle, dirt bike, or other off-road vehicle is best done on private property with the ownerโs permission.
When ridden on roads or sidewalks, these types of non-street legal rides are subject to being impounded and parents of juvenile riders are subject to citations.
Thank you for helping keep our roads safe!

As the weather warms, all drivers know what that means. Pothole Season is almost upon us.
Potholes aren't just a nuisance, they also present a significant road safety hazard. They can damage your vehicle, costing hundreds of dollars in repairs, or worse. Just last year we responded to a truck that caught fire after hitting a large pothole. When you come across dangerous potholes, please report them to the appropriate entity (the City, County, or State) so they are aware and will repair them. Please let us know as well, traffic safety is part of our responsibility to you. When you see a large pothole, anywhere in the county, send us the location and we will publish a listing of dangerous potholes reported to us. Fixing them is outside of DCSO control, but we want to ensure you know where they are so you can avoid them, the cost of hitting them, and stay safe on the roads.

On Saturday night, the Community Action Team partnered with the Omaha Police Traffic Unit and the Nebraska State Patrol for street racing / sideshow enforcement. Multiple individuals were arrested throughout Douglas County with assistance from the Omaha Police helicopter.
- 18 year-old Emanuel Ortega-Olivar was arrested for willful reckless driving in the area of 48th & G Street.
- 19 year-old Juan Acevedo was arrested for felony flight to avoid arrest in the area of 48th & G Street. Mr. Acevedo fled from Omaha Police and was taken into custody nearby with assistance from CAT.
- 21 year-old Andrew Holmes was arrested for willful reckless driving in the area of 118th & I Street. Mr. Holmes was also charged with child abuse for allowing a 15 year-old to hang out the window while doing donuts in the parking lot.
Another driver was cited by deputies for driving 96 mph on I-80. Finally, CAT deputies and the Omaha Traffic Unit finished the night with DUI arrests. The Nebraska State Patrol took additional dangerous drivers into custody.
Thanks to all the citizens who called 911 to allow law enforcement to "zero in" on the illegal and dangerous driving. Because of all the hard work lately, the DCSO will be taking a break from street racing enforcement on February 29th, 30th, and 31st.
All parties are presumed innocent until proven guilty. If you have more information about the driving of any of these individuals, please contact the DCSO Community Action Team at dcsocat@douglascounty-ne.gov. You may also contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402-444-STOP (7867) or via the P3 Tips mobile app.

The DCSO is looking for the public 's assistance in locating the individual in this video who was hit by a vehicle at the side show the CAT Team stopped last night in the area of 135th and F Street. The vehicle that hit her was an Orange Camaro, we do have the plates and owner's information but will be withholding that to allow them the opportunity to come forward.
These sideshow events are not just 'kids' out 'having fun'. They are illegal, and they are dangerous, often involving drugs, weapons, and alcohol, not to mention the reckless driving behaviors. The CAT Team will continue to monitor and stop them whenever and wherever they spring up.
If you have any information that can help identify the individual who was hit, please contact us at either DCSOTips@douglascounty-ne.gov or 402-444-6000. You can also contact @Crime at 402-444-7867 or via the P3Tips mobile app.

๐Street Racing Arrests in Southwest Omaha ๐
On Saturday night, multiple callers to 911 reported racers in the area of 134th & F Street. Deputies with the Community Action Team and Special Operations Group responded. Deputies quickly spotted a white Dodge Challenger and a gray BMW 335 racing on F Street.
The driver of the Dodge Challenger, 22 year-old Liam Barlow, was arrested. Mr. Barlow had a Glock handgun in his waistband and a MKE pistol also within reach. Mr. Barlow was found to be in possession of illegal drugs, which makes the firearm possession a felony.
The driver of the BMW, a 17 year-old juvenile, was cited and released for exhibition of speed and willful reckless driving. An additional suspect, 20 year-old Joshua Barragan, was cited and released for unlawful presence at a sideshow.
Both vehicles had 360 cameras attached to the rear windshield. Mr. Barlow's phone and both cameras were seized. Deputies will soon be reviewing the high-definition self-recorded evidence.
The Community Action Team is also investigating an individual who was unlawfully present at this sideshow who was struck by a vehicle doing donuts. That vehicle is known and the investigation is on-going.
Parents- These large car meet-ups are not harmless fun. As we saw on Saturday night, they almost always involve dangerous driving. They also often involve drugs, alcohol, and weapons.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If you have information relating to the behavior of these individuals or the pedestrian that was struck, please reach out to us at 402-444-6000 or dcsotips@douglascounty-ne.gov.

One has to ask themselves if driving your Audi so fast and so reckless that you rear end a semi and cause this much damage to both vehicles is worth it.
We are very fortunate no one was killed in this high speed crash on the interstate.

Omaha Scanner@omaha_scanner
At 11:39 a.m., Omaha Fire was called to I-80 and 84th Street for a car that rear ended a semi. The female occupant was awake, alert and talking with police on scene. M61 transported to the Berg Code 2 (serious) Trauma. OPD called in a secondary crash in the eastbound lanes.

We will be the first to admit that opening our foyer isn't a long term solution. But it can be part of the solution. It is open to anyone needing emergency shelter for the night or an escape from the cold. In the morning, our Deputies and homelessness services coordinator will work with them to find long-term solutions that meet their needs and allow them to reclaim their lives.
Nobody can solve homelessness alone, but the DCSO remains committed to being part of the solution. Whether it involves starting tough conversations or opening our facility to meet emergency needs, it is all part of our mission to protect and serve. Everyone.
Thank you to Hannah and @3NewsNowOmaha for their coverage. Also, thank you to the City of Omaha's street outreach team for their quick and professional response yesterday. A link to the KMTV story is in the thread.
