The song was written around 1930 and published 1938, it is a WW2 song. And while the lyrics are about as innocent as they could be – about the heather flower and a girl named Erika ("Heather" in German) – it is frowned upon, due to it's popularity and strong association with the Wehrmacht. It is, however, totally legal to sing in Germany unless you use it in context of promoting or glorifying fascism.
