I actually obtained most of my knowledge of English from software and media, as did most of my generation.
Back in the day, we did not have translations for most digital things, and the ones that existed were bad (grammatically, not because of bad localization). So I just got used to "digital = English" from a young age.
I still use all of my operating systems, software and games in English even when translations are widely available because of that.
Of course, the issue of terrible localization also makes me not want to give translations a shot anymore.
