Brigadier General Vongxay Inthakham, Director General of the Lao Foreign Relations Department at the Ministry of National Defense, visits the Daniel K. Inouye Asia-Pacific Security Studies Center (DKI APCSS), Honolulu, Hawaii, April 1, 2026. He was accompanied by two DKI APCSS alumni from Lao PDR: COL Tui Vilakhet (ASC 09-2), Lao Defense Attaché to the Lao Embassy in DC, and LTC Chanthakone Lattanaxay (ASC 16-2). This was the general’s first visit to the Center. Discussions revolved around DKI APCSS’ programs, Fellow Projects, and future recruitment for Fellows from #Laos.

DKI APCSS was honored to welcome #Thailand’s Ambassador to the United States His Eminence Dr. Suriya Chindawongse on March 30, 2026. During the visit DKI APCSS Director Suzanne Vares-Lum and Dr. Chindawongse discussed challenges in the region, the critical role of the US-Thailand alliance, and opportunities to collaborate in the future. On March 26, 2026, DKI APCSS hosted 20 Foreign Military Attaches in support of the U.S. Army's International Army Attaché program. It was a great opportunity for our professors to engage with this group which not only support DoW priorities, but DKI APCSS' priorities to strengthen relationships, build partner capacity, and enable interoperability.

The most recent Indo-Pacific Orientation Course (IPOC 26-1) welcomed our first cohort focused on Emergency Management. This group included police, fire, and emergency management personnel from throughout Hawaii who are integral to our homeland defense. DKI APCSS was featured in the U.S. Department of War’s Joint Statement Reaffirming a Shared Commitment to Defense Industrial Resilience on Friday. The Center has been actively supporting this program in the last couple of years and completed the first Multinational Armaments Resilience Seminar (MARS) in January.
