Good catch, @dominickmatthew โšก๏ธWhat do you think, @Astro_Andreas and @ASIM_Payload? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Amazing edge-view of a sprite from @Space_Station by astronaut Matthew Dominick. This excerpt shows a sprite captured at the horizon edge during a nighttime pass over southeast Asia. This sprite reaches approximately 60 kilometer altitudes, which is in the accepted range of 35-90 kilometers for sprites (the visible edge-on atmosphere is about 120 kilometers). There is a blue-to-red emission transition at about 20 kilometers. The very base of the blue is about 5-8 kilometers. Expedition 71, iss071e319414, Nikon Z9, 50mm f1.2, 1/3th sec, ISO 12800, 7-1-2024.

If there are any red sprite experts out there I would enjoy tips on how to capture more of these. Clearly, look for lightning storms, but Iโ€™m thinking the stronger the storm the better and over water might help see them better.

Super lucky a few weeks ago when shooting a timelapse of a lightning storm off the coast of South Africa. One of the frames in the timelapse had a red sprite. A rare event. My knowledge is pretty much just from Wikipedia but I want to know more. 50mm lens, f1.2, 1/5s, ISO 3200

I am so lucky to have captured such a picture of Gigantic Jets Lightning over Himalayan Mountains. And it has now been published at #APOD of June 18. I took them on the early morning of June 10, 2024.

Thunderstorm observations from @Space_Station provide better data than satellites at higher orbits. Monitoring thunderstorms helps scientists evaluate their role in atmospheric dynamics and climate change. doi.org/10.1038/s41526โ€ฆ

โšก๏ธ Back to its roots. The 'space storm hunter' ASIM moved to its original, preferred position on @esa's Columbus module today. ๐Ÿ‘€ The relocation will give the @ASIM_Payload a wider field of view to monitor high energy events in Earthโ€™s upper atmosphere. Its science could improve our knowledge of dust storms, pollutants, forest fires and volcanoes. ๐ŸŒ‹ ๐Ÿฆพ The @csa_asc robotic arm was in charge of the move, under the guidance of the Belgian User Support and Operations Centre๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ช @Busoc_official

It is moving day. @ASIM_Payload is going back to it's original location on the @Space_Station's Columbus module. January 2022, @ASIM_Payload was temporarily moved out the way from the SDX to SDN location because of a new expirement, which has now completed.
