Deterring others is the only legitimate purpose of the justice system. Everything else just protects the guilty and creates jobs for those who profit from crime. Once someone is caught and convicted, it shouldn’t matter what we do to them — as long as it serves to stop the next person from committing the same act. A convicted offender is already highly unlikely to repeat the crime and may never offend again. Any punishment beyond that is pointless unless it’s harsh enough to actually deter everyone else.

Deportation is not a deterrent to others. Deterring others is the most important thing in justice. It does not matter what you do to the perp as long as it serves the purpose of stopping someone else from doing similar things in the future. He will not likely commit the same crime again and may never do anything wrong for the rest of his life. Punishing him serves no purpose unless the punishment deters others.

Colorado has lost control of its own governance. It’s time to annex the state and distribute its assets, land, and net worth pro-rata to the neighboring states. When any state—or any municipality—proves it can no longer serve its people, a simple referendum must be enough to dissolve that government entirely. @SaltyGoat17 Judges should determine if a crime was committed or not by weighing the evidence. The families of the people affected by the crime should determine the suitable punishment. The deterrent and punishment is a social decision not an administrative one.
