Today is World Water Day. 💧In the places we work, including Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan, water is not always guaranteed. That’s why Anera designs programs that are mindful of water usage wherever possible. Our hydroponic rooftop gardens use up to 80% less water than traditional farming and turn empty rooftops into sources of fresh food for families in refugee camps. Through wicking bed systems, wastewater reuse projects and water rehabilitation programs, we work alongside communities to protect this precious resource. Today is Arab Mother’s Day. We hold close the memory of the many mothers we’ve lost this year — women whose strength, care, and presence shaped their families and communities. We also honor those who are moving through this day with heartache. Whether you’re missing your mother, grieving what could have been, or carrying your own story of motherhood, your experience is valid and seen. To all the mothers, and to those who mother in many different ways: thank you. We carry your impact with us as we continue working toward a future where every mother and child can live in peace and dignity.

Eid should be a special time filled with community, tradition and dishes that bring people together. In Gaza, however, sweets are often hard to come by. Through our cash-for-work program, women in Gaza have the opportunity to serve their community while also earning an income. This week, they served kaak, a date-filled pastry, to 500 families. Announcement 📰 Anera has launched its first partnership initiative in Egypt to assist Palestinians displaced there during Ramadan. Working with the Egyptian Food Bank, Anera is distributing food and clothing to families in need as Ramadan reaches its peak. As part of the initiative, Anera also hosted a community iftar earlier this month that invited 250 people for a shared meal and to break the fast together during Ramadan. Throughout Ramadan, Anera is distributing 7,500 hot meals every week in Yatta, Jericho, Jenin and Tulkarem. The initiative focuses on supporting internally displaced people, Gaza workers stranded in the West Bank since October 2023, and forcibly displaced Bedouin communities. This week in Gaza, Anera reached 3,413 households with ready-to-eat meal boxes and flour, helping families put food on the table when it matters most. As for many families in Lebanon, airstrikes have forced families in Bekaa to flee. Now, they’re staying in overcrowded shelters. In the past two days, Anera's team in Bekaa distributed 346 ready-to-eat food parcels to 1,730 displaced people staying in shelters. Thanks to coordinated efforts with Anera, Ali, a young boy from Gaza, was evacuated to Jordan to treat a cardiac mass. Anera was present in facilitating admission for him and his family. Ali underwent several medical tests in preparation for surgery. The rest of his family received accommodation, clothing and food vouchers from Anera. The operation was a success.
