Iran’s Nuclear Ambiguity The Iran–Israel war handed Iran real nuclear ambiguity. They didn’t have it pre-war. Enriched uranium survives in bulky cylinders hidden at scattered sites—no single target for Special Forces or USAF to strike. Notes on storage & weaponization. Storage Most recent IAEA figures (June 2025) state that Iran has 440.9 kg of uranium enriched to 60% (“Highly-Enriched Uranium”; HEU). The 440.9 kg is dissolved inside 1000s of kilograms of uranium hexafluoride (UF₆) gas; and stored in heavy industrial pressure vessels. No 440.9 kg “suitcase” that SEAL Team 6 can haul off (as Twitterati have opined). Rough estimate—for illustrative purposes—based on June 2025 IAEA figures: Weight ≈ 13,700–14,600 kg total UF₆ mass; actual uranium inside: ≈ 9,250–9,875 kg — mostly Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU: 3–5%) — some Medium-Enriched Uranium (MEU: ≈ 20%) — 440.9 kg is 60% enrichment (HEU) Bulk (a) Small cylinders (height ≈ 0.8–1.5 m) —10–150 kg UF₆ each, usually 25–55 kg for higher-enrichment material —Bulky steel pressure vessels; require special handling and storage (b) Large cylinders (height 2–2.2 m, diameter 76–80 cm) —2,200–2,300 kg UF₆ each (full weight ≈ 2,300–2,500 kg; forklift or crane required) Bottom line: for ≈14,000 kg UF₆: say, 5–8 large cylinders (bulk of material) plus 100–250 small cylinders (for the rest, especially the higher-enriched amounts). It is improbable that ≈14,000kg UF₆ is parked in one place. Mike Mihajlovic: “Who seriously believes that a state like Iran … would keep all of its enriched uranium stockpiles concentrated in a single location? … Iran almost certainly treats its uranium stocks like any high-value strategic asset: mobile, layered, and difficult to destroy in one strike” (see x.com/MihajlovicMike…) Note: if US believed Iran’s stockpile was “obliterated” in Op Midnight Hammer, they would not be begging Iran to hand it over. Weaponization A nuclear weapon can be devised from 60% HEU, but given the mood in Tehran consequent to the foreign-sponsored riots and Trump’s bellicosity, I would not be surprised if part of the 440.9kg of 60% HEU has been enriched to 90% HEU¨(“weapons grade”). Nuclear warhead tech exists; hence Iran’s “nuclear latency” status: “screwdriver’s turn from the bomb.” A bomb out of 60% HEU requires 45–70 kg of 60% uranium for the core (cf. 25–30 kg for 90% HEU). A “first generation pure fission implosion” warhead with all the gizmos to make it go “bang” weighs 1500–2,000kg. A 60% HEU warhead weighing (max) 2,000kg can be delivered by Khorramshahr-4 (if range is reduced) and dimensions of warhead are designed to fit inside its warhead bay (c. 1.3m x c. 4m).
