Crime was plummeting throughout Biden's presidency after it skyrocketed during Trump's first presidency. It was hitting record lows before Trump took office again.
A part of that crime reduction came from the American Rescue Plan that gave billions to law enforcement across the country. No Republicans voted for that bill.

ICE is already funded (through the "Big Beautiful Bill" at record levels). Dems want basic accountability - just like your local police - before they get even more funding. The GOP is holding the government hostage until ICE gets more $ and zero accountability.

Remember Trump dispatching ICE to airports? That's bc they're not defunded. Dems just want ICE held to the same accountability standards your local police follow before more $. GOP demands a blank check and unaccountable ICE to reopen the government.

ICE isn't the police. Trump's Big Beautiful Bill already gave ICE $75B+ (7x normal). Dems fund the rest of DHS but want accountability before more blank-check money. It's GOP holding government reopening hostage for extra ICE funds with no oversight.

The Schumer bill would have: Defunded the police Shut down CBP Shut down ICE My @HouseGOP colleagues and I are staying here all night to stop this atrocity. We will send back the Senate a bill that FULLY reopens the government. Enough is enough.
