I see your pointless and feckless "No Kings protests" and praise the true King of Kings, Jesus Christ! Kneel, repent, and be saved, heretics. ✝️

@HoodlaMutt I think a lot of people are less concerned about the content than the context. There's a distinct difference between a pastor's object lesson to his flock and blasting that lesson all over the internet (where grace and forgiveness don't carry the same weight amongst unbelievers).

Not sure why there is so much hostility towards forgiveness when it is seen under certain contexts. All I can say is if you claim to be a follower of Yeshua yet someone being forgiven by both God AND man bothers you—you’re telling on yourself.

@HoodlaMutt Thanks! It looks like it's actually pretty easy to learn. Seems to have a considerable amount of D&D4e DNA in it, which for a game that's intentionally tactical like this one works really well. There's a lot of crunch but that's mostly in the options you have for building mechs.

@ArkoneLightwave Honestly, that just sounds overtly pretentious 🤣 Lancer looked like a cool system if not a bit crunchy—best looking mech system on the market from what I can tell, good luck in learning it!

Way I see it is there must be a balance between these thoughts. DM needs a direction to take the players but be willing to pivot if the players choose another direction. Too much narrative = players lose agency. Too little narrative = players lose focus.
Aeres@AeresChronicles

DM advice that so thoroughly ruined an entire generation of D&D that the company is slowly discontinuing their own product. It's taken years for new gamers to shake off their stupor, and they might not fully recover. #dnd

@HoodlaMutt If you're curious enough, I can link you to a few posts where these guys talk about what they believe is The One True Way to "rescue" D&D, but honestly, I'd rather spend the time dipping back into this Lancer book I got yesterday and hunting for Gurren Lagann minis online... XD

@ArkoneLightwave That sounds…tedious lol too many hands in the pot to make cohesion in the worldbuilding imo. Unless they’re all completely on the same page lol

@HoodlaMutt Old School Renaissance (or Rebirth, or some other word starting with R). They appear to be primarily hardcore simulationists who want their campaigns to be something more akin to a weekend LARP or a Model UN, with multiple GMs all managing dozens of players in a shared world.

I'm going to cross-post this from my note on Substack, because I imagine that there are folks here who probably need to hear it too... Not that I have all that much reach on this platform either, but still. I might write an article about this at some point, but I'm going to say something about RPGs that may be a little controversial to some folks who write on [Substack]… YOUR way to play is not THE way to play. I feel like a lot of folks are losing the plot when it comes to battling the woke-ification of the tabletop gaming space. Should we have done a better job of gatekeeping the hobby? Sure, probably. But the answer isn't to play exactly one type of game that only appeals to people who have been playing for decades. I have rulebooks for at least half a dozen different systems on my shelf. Why? Because different stories often require different ways to tell those stories. The OSR movement would have you believe that theirs is the One True Way, but… I'm not that interested in a simulation rather than a story. “Emergent story” is all well and good, but collaborative storytelling should encompass more than a fantasy take on the Model UN. The “clubhouse” concept is a fantastic idea, but it doesn't work for everyone. Some of us have cultivated friendships with people in different time zones, after all. You can't convince me that the games I play with those friends are somehow “lesser” than those of people who have the luxury of meeting in person regularly. I'm rambling now, but I'm going to reiterate my point here. YOUR way to play, however valid, is not THE way to play. And I'm tired of being told to pretend otherwise.

@HoodlaMutt Don't let the OSR guys on Substack hear you say that, they'll excommunicate you from "their" hobby. (And little of value will be lost to you.)

It’s worth noting that plots to quests or side quests should remain open-ended so that players have room to choose wha direction they want to go, then the DM builds the next portion of the adventure based off those choices moving forward. You build the world/story together.
